Fog, storms and risk of tornado loom over West Central

A blanket of fog settled in across parts of Saskatchewan  Monday morning, following a weekend of heavy rain and thunderstorms. 

In West Central Saskatchewan, forecasters are monitoring conditions that could bring severe weather later in the day. A low-pressure system developing near Edmonton is expected to draw moisture into the region, creating unstable conditions by late afternoon.

Labour groups pushing back as Air Canada flight attendants' strike poised to continue

It could be another chaotic day for travellers as a labour dispute continues between Air Canada and the union representing its flight attendants. 

Flight attendants with the Montreal-based airline represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees are expected to remain on the picket lines today as a battle against a federal return-to-work order continues.

Flatlanders Speedway held their August races this past weekend with two days of circle-track action west of Kindersley.

The Prairie Dirt Racing Association was in Kindersley for their latest tour stop, upping the car count in each of the hobbystocks, streetstocks, kid mod, and modifieds division. Those classes joined the Flatlanders usuals of run your junk, truckstock, mini-sprints, and the ever-competitive legends division.

Roughriders continue firing on all cylinders in home win versus Hamilton

The Saskatchewan Roughriders put in a complete effort on Saturday afternoon to beat the Hamilton Tiger Cats 29-9, improving their CFL best record to 8-1 in front of a packed house at Mosaic Stadium in Regina.

Coming off a bye week, the Roughriders got off to a slow start allowing the Tiger Cats to drive the field twice in the opening quarter. Those drives thankfully only resulted in field goals as Saskatchewan exercised some bend-but-don't-break defense for a 6-1 score after the first.

Repeated golf cart damage sparks police involvement in Luseland

Luseland Police Service and Bell Acres Golf and Country Club are warning residents after rental golf carts at the course have sustained repeated damage this season.

Officials say the damage, though minor in each instance, has accumulated over time, resulting in significant costs for the club. Police note that willfully damaging property is a criminal offence, and charges may be laid against anyone responsible.

"Always in harvest mode": Crop specialist talks when to break out the combine

The farming calendar follows a strict rhythm when it comes to seeding and harvest, but exactly when those jobs begin can vary.

Right now, it's about scouting crops, and deciding when to take them out of the ground. 

"Farmers are always in harvest mode," said crops extension specialist Tyce Masich, giving a benchmark of July 20 for when breaking out the combines becomes a consideration.

A man who lived in Brock has been sentenced to one year in custody and 18 months’ probation after pleading guilty to assault, uttering threats, theft of a credit card and taking a motor vehicle without consent.

Kindersley court heard that in 2023, Duane McKay travelled to Ontario to meet a woman he had met online in 2021. On the trip back to Saskatchewan, he assaulted her at a hotel.

Air Canada cancels plan to resume flights Sunday as union defies back-to-work order

Air Canada cancelled hundreds of additional flights on Sunday after the union representing its flight attendants announced the workers would remain on strike in defiance of a back-to-work order.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees said it filed a challenge in Federal Court on Sunday to an order by the Canada Industrial Relations Board that said its members must return to work by 2 p.m. ET.

"Our members are not going back to work," CUPE national president Mark Hancock said outside Toronto's Pearson Airport. "We are saying no."
