Southwest school divisions set to receive funding for inflationary costs

The Government of Saskatchewan announced a significant investment for its school divisions in a release last Thursday.

As prices of fuel and insurance on the rise, this extra funding is in efforts to help cover expenses so the classroom resources aren't compromised.

According to the release, the one-time investment is a total of $20 million, divided between districts.

The province also announced a new $7 million fund to allow school divisions to hire more educational assistants for the 2022-23 school year.

Extreme heat leads to dangers in the water

With extreme heat warnings for West Central this week, swimming will be tempting to say the least, but folks should keep their eyes out for a danger in the water.

Sean Osmar, a Water Security Agency (WSA) spokesperson, said the current weather conditions in the southwest are ideal for blue-green algae to survive and thrive.

"As we get further into July and temperatures are rising, you'll see it in warm and stagnant bodies of water," Osmar stated.
