Tornado season continues with plenty of summer left for thunderstorms

The southeast is still reeling following four confirmed tornadoes around the Estevan area last week, luckily with no major damage or injuries reported. Though the threat is over, we're still in the middle of a tornado system, and another big thunderstorm could make for more tornadoes.

Environment Canada sends out warnings for tornadoes ahead of time, with Meteorologist Eric Dykes explaining some of their methodology for detecting the dangerous summer weather systems.

“We are at $5,870,000. It's craziness. We're $629,000-ish away from our goal, and we've been at this for 14–16 months. It's been a crazy ride.” — Lori Gervais

Farmers will be out evaluating crops following the weekend weather

Most areas of the prairies received some rainfall over the weekend.

Environment Canada issued a number of special weather statements warning about significant rainfall and the potential for flooding in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.

Many areas saw torrential rain and even tornadoes that caused significant damage, along with cooler temperatures and a risk of frost in some areas in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

McGillivray’s path to radio was not a traditional one. He was working as a grader operator in Saskatchewan when he decided to take a shot at a different life.

“I always listened to the radio while working,” he said. “Eventually, I just thought, I’ve got to give that a try.”

Carney says Middle East 'highly volatile' after U.S. strikes Iran, calls for calm

Prime Minister Mark Carney is calling for de-escalation after the United States carried out strikes against Iranian nuclear sites early Sunday.

Carney issued a social media post saying the U.S. military action was "designed to alleviate" threats posed by Iran, but the situation in the Middle East remains "highly volatile."

He says stability in the region is a priority and is calling on parties to get back to the negotiating table to find a diplomatic solution.

Endangered, tiny Piping Plover babies could use your help this summer

With their cotton-ball-sized chicks and soft “peep-lo” calls, Piping Plovers and their tiny hatchlings might be one of Saskatchewan’s cutest summertime residents — but they’re also among the most vulnerable.

Endangered since 1985, these shorebirds rely on Saskatchewan for breeding, making the province an unexpectedly vital stronghold for the species as advocates try to secure their survival — and possibly even a species recovery.
