A spokesperson for Canadian Foodgrains Bank says they are very grateful for a recent funding announcement by our federal government. The Canadian government is providing a $4 million grant for Canadian Foodgrains Bank to address the growing hunger crisis in Sudan. 

According to Canadian Foodgrains Bank, nearly 25 million people in Sudan are facing acute hunger since the outbreak of civil war in April 2023. That makes up more than half the population. As many as 640,000 people are already experiencing famine-like conditions in five identified areas.

Freedom Convoy organizers Tamara Lich and Chris Barber are set to hear a verdict today in the joint trial over their roles in the mass protest against pandemic health measures that rolled into Ottawa more than three years ago.

Lich and Barber were both charged with mischief, intimidation and counselling others to break the law in relation to their roles in the 2022 protest that drew thousands of demonstrators to Ottawa for three weeks.

Their trial wrapped up in September after hearing 45 days of evidence and legal arguments.

Prime Minister Mark Carney will address reporters shortly after the White House declared both Canada and Mexico exempt from new reciprocal tariffs announced today by U.S. President Donald Trump.

A fact sheet from Trump's office says goods imported under the existing continental trade deal, known as CUSMA, will not face tariffs, while those outside the deal will see a 10 per cent tariff.

A busy end to March for the Estevan Police Service as they dealt with a number of issues over the final few days.

March 28th was very busy, beginning with a report of a male tying a rope to the eaves of a local school. After speaking to the male, it was determined he wasn’t doing anything criminal and was asked to move on.

In the Trojan division, police attended to a disturbance, speaking to all parties involved and mediating the disturbance.

Crime is down in Estevan, but police are monitoring increases in theft and the presence of organized crime.

Estevan Police Service Chief Jamie Blunden shared crime statistics and policing strategies at the latest Chamber Coffee Talk, highlighting year-over-year crime reductions.

SaskPower says that they're looking into an outage which was reported in the southeast earlier today.

That includes the area around Alameda, Oxbow, Frobisher, and Northgate.

This week is Global Asbestos Awareness Week. With the start of the week, the Government of Saskatchewan is reminding the public about the province’s Asbestos Registry.

The registry, which was updated and launched in February, has the list and location of public buildings and publicly owned buildings that are known to contain asbestos. This helps to ensure workers who are performing repairs and renovations know about the risks involving asbestos.  

An incident involving the U18 Wawota Flyers has drawn public scrutiny after photos surfaced on social media earlier this month showing players in a dressing room with alcohol. One of the images included a caption deemed extremely offensive, leading to multiple suspensions at both the league and provincial levels.

Gas prices are expected to drop quickly as the federal consumer carbon tax is coming off across the country. In Saskatchewan, that's being joined by the industrial carbon tax drop, which may also have an effect on other consumer goods.
