SCGA starting up free breakfasts to remind people to keep safe during digging season

With the ground thawing, the Saskatchewan Common Ground Alliance (SCGA) is sending out some info to people on how to keep safe during digging season.

They're doing so through a series of free breakfasts open for construction workers and members of the public involved in ground construction across the province.

Poilievre, Singh focus on affordability, Carney visits his Ottawa riding

Affordability measures dominated the promises on the federal election trail on Saturday, with the NDP focused on capping the price of some food items and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre offering more tax writeoffs to some trades workers.

Province announces changes to SINP to better bring labour into the province

The government of Saskatchewan is making some changes to its Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) as the federal government has made some other changes earlier this year.

The federal government cut nomination allocations for the provincial programs by 50 per cent, leaving Saskatchewan with 3,625 nominations, the lowest since 2009.

As well, the 75 per cent of the nominees for the program must already be living in Canada as temporary residents.

Province details new Small and Medium Enterprise Tax Credit

The government of Saskatchewan has announced that it will be creating a new Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Tax Credit.

They say that the program will consist of a three-year pilot, functioning similarly to the Saskatchewan Technology Startup Incentive. This pilot will target businesses in the food and beverage manufacturing and transportation equipment sectors.

Carney campaigning in his Ottawa riding today, Poilievre in Winnipeg

Liberal Leader Mark Carney will be campaigning in Nepean today, the Ottawa riding where he is seeking election.

Carney, who has not yet served as an MP, is expected to meet with volunteers in the riding at 10 a.m.

Carney has faced questions about his decision to run in Nepean, which became vacant only after the Liberal party ousted MP Chandra Arya as its candidate three days before the election was called.

Cattle from Saskatchewan farm found with Bovine TB

Last month, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency or CFIA officially declared a herd of cattle infected with bovine tuberculosis or bovine TB. An investigation spanning six years has taken place, tracking the movements of the herd to limit the spread of bovine TB. Dr. Stacey Vos, veterinarian and Animal Health Regional Veterinary Officer with the CFIA, talks about the case itself and the risks associated with bovine TB. 

Former premier calls for diversifying energy trading partners

Former Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall is urging trade diversification in the face of American uncertainty.

While a lot of focus in the federal election campaign has been on dealings with U.S. President Donald Trump, Wall doesn't know if anyone is really prepared for Trump's approach.

"Either are going to be as able as the other one to deal with the President," Wall said. "It changes every day. I'm not sure if there's anybody, including people in the President's own administration, who are ready for that kind of volatility and the changes we've seen."

Midale under water advisory

A precautionary drinking water advisory is now in effect for the town of Midale. It was issued this morning by the Water Security Agency due to high turbidity entering the distribution system.  

It is recommended that all water for drinking purposes be boiled, at a rolling boil, for at least one minute. This recommendation applies to water that would be used for other activities where it may be ingested, such as brushing teeth, ice cubes, or washing fruits and vegetables.  

United Way Estevan passes the torch with new president at AGM

The United Way Estevan held its annual general meeting last night, taking the time to introduce some of its members moving into new positions and those moving out of those positions.

The meeting also saw some finances being looked at, with United Way Estevan receiving $437,713 in donations in 2024. That's down from the $514,857 in revenues in 2023, but as $123,918 was from a one-time grant, overall donations to the United Way Estevan and Allocations to member agencies were up compared to 2023.
