Education infrastructure spending in southeast in provincial budget

The provincial budget delivered Wednesday contained $3.5 billion for education, an increase of 5.5 per cent from the 2024-25 budget. This included $2.4 billion for school operating funding and $191.3 million for school capital projects.  

Part of the operating funding will be going towards the creation of 50 specialized classrooms, explained Everett Hindley, the Minister of Education.  

Carbon tax coming off could mean lower price for city departments

The Carbon Tax's consumer side is set to be taken off on April 1st, lowering costs on some consumer items. That includes the price of gas, diesel, and any item which could potentially be impacted by shipping costs.

For the city, the tax coming off brings a few opportunities, according to Mayor Tony Sernick.

Community Safety Net provides safety resources for youth, seniors

The Community Safety Net program, originally introduced by the former school resource focuses on providing safety education for youth and seniors. Run by a Canadian organization specializing in safety awareness, the program offers educational books funded through community donations.

“We thank the members of the Estevan community that supported the cause, because without them we can’t continue with this initiative, and it’s a really great program,” said Constable Danielle Stephany of the Estevan Police Service.

Saskatchewan RCMP releases list of 10 wanted criminals, including those who may be in the southeast

The Saskatchewan RCMP are warning people in the province with a list of 10 currently wanted individuals, some of which may be in the southeast.

They released that list earlier today as a way to remind people of what to do if they see a wanted individual.

The names on the list that may be present in the southeast include:

Poilievre outlines plan to boost apprenticeships, training for trades workers

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is announcing a plan to boost training and jobs for workers in skilled trades.

In a news release this morning, Poilievre says his plan for "more boots, less suits" will expand training halls and provide direct grants and faster employment insurance for apprentices in licensed trades.

He says the goal is to deliver higher paycheques to workers and make Canada less reliant on the U.S.
