Canada extends temporary visa application window for Ukrainians

The federal government is extending the timeline for Ukrainians in Canada who fled Russia's invasion to apply for new or renewed temporary visas by one year. 

The new deadline to apply for new or renewed work and study permits under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel program is March 31, 2026.

Nearly 300,000 Ukrainians came to Canada under the program, which said they had to arrive by March 31, 2024.

The Estevan Early Years Family Resource Centre is making it easier for families to stay active with the Play It Forward Community Lending Closet, a free resource offering sports equipment, outdoor gear, and games to borrow.

Sydney Wanner from the Family Centre said the idea came from a desire to make activities more accessible.

Province announces funding for new Ronald McDonald House to be built in Regina

Southern Saskatchewan will have a new resource to help out families in need as the provincial government has announced $6.5 million in funding for a new Ronald McDonald House in Regina.  

Before this, the Ronald McDonald Houses were located in Saskatoon and Prince Albert, which as a facility specializes in giving spaces to families whose children are undergoing treatment in a city centre to keep them together.

Trudeau calls idea of banning Trump from attending G7 summit 'irresponsible'

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has rejected NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh's call for the federal government to bar U.S. President Donald Trump from coming to Canada for the G7 summit this June.

At an event in Montreal Thursday, Trudeau said he sees the idea of banning Trump as an "irresponsible" approach to governance and relationships with other nations.

"It's easy for politicians these days to toss out easy and shocking things to say. We see a lot of it around the world these days. I'm not one of those Canadian politicians," Trudeau said when asked about Singh's comments.

Southeast looks to grow as province posts superb private investment growth in 2024

Saskatchewan is celebrating some good numbers for private investment after the provincial government revealed those early this morning.

In their release, the province says that Saskatchewan led all provinces in private capital investment growth in 2024, with an increase of 17.3 per cent over 2023.

SARM wants provincial help to get strychnine use for ground squirrels

Bill Huber, president of the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM), is leading the charge for the reintroduction of strychnine as a tool to control Richardson's ground squirrels in the province. In a recent interview, Huber discussed the need for the provincial government to invoke the Saskatchewan First Act to reinstate the use of the rodenticide, which was banned following a federal deregistration order that fully took effect in March 2024. 

Premier Moe says relations with United States 'more intense' after meetings in D.C.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says relations with the United States have been "a little more intense" as he continues to push against the threat of tariffs. 

"That may remain a little more intense for a period into the future, but we're committed to making the relationship work despite the current rhetoric," Moe told reporters Thursday in Washington, D.C., outside the White House.
