Cannington Saskatchewan NDP candidate hoping residents will see value in change
The provincial election is just a couple of weeks away with candidates looking to make their case, including here in the southeast.
In the Cannington constituency, Dianne Twietmeyer is running for the Saskatchewan NDP.
She's hoping to break into an area that's not traditionally favoured by her party in order to help those southeast residents.
USask researchers find potential new cancer treatment with iron-regulating protein
In a lab at the University of Saskatchewan, the search is on for a drug that will eliminate a protein found in cancer cells, and ultimately kill the cancer due to lack of iron.
Oleg Dmitriev, a professor at USask, says there is a protein that appears at high levels in cancer cells which regulates iron within them. Cancer cells require this protein, called MEMO1, in order to invade healthy tissue, so the team is currently screening for a drug that will target and eliminate the protein.
Dmitriev says iron is vital to all living things, however, it has a ‘dark side’.
CN rail reports record grain movement
September was a record month for CN when it comes to grain movement in Western Canada.

Elections Saskatchewan lays out full list with 243 candidates on the ballots
The provincial election has seen a total of 243 candidates as the deadline to file paperwork for a nomination passed on Saturday.
Across the 61 constituents of the province, the number of candidates running is above the 236 candidates in the 2020 Provincial Election, but less than the record 268 candidates in the 2016 Provincial Election.
Annual inflation falls to 1.6% in September, raises odds of 50-basis-point rate cut
The chances of a half-percentage point interest rate cut by the Bank of Canada became more likely Tuesday after Statistics Canada reported annual inflation fell to 1.6 per cent in September.
Economist Tu Nguyen of accounting and consultancy firm RSM Canada said she had expected the inflation rate to remain close to the central bank's two per cent target, where it was in August, for a few more months.
"This is one of the instances where I'm happy to be wrong," she said.
RCMP request help finding stolen dirt bike
The Indian Head RCMP are looking for help finding a stolen dirt bike which went missing last week.
A 2004 Honda CRF 80 dirt bike was last seen at a residence in the town of Vibank before being stolen sometime overnight on October 10.
Anyone with information related to this advisory is asked to call 310-RCMP for immediate response, or they can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

EPS out in full force during Thanksgiving weekend, highlights speeding, impaired driving
The Estevan Police Service were busy over the weekend with several calls about speeding, impaired driving, and assault on an officer by a dog.
During the long weekend, police conducted high-visibility check stops throughout the city. Out of 250 vehicles stopped, 19 motorists were subjected to a breathalyzer test. One person had their license suspended for three days due to drugs being in their system. Three tickets were issued for open alcohol in the vehicle and four other traffic infractions were observed.
