Maria Baerg drew her final breath on Friday, September 27, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Estevan, SK at the age of 88 years.

A Public Visitation will take place at Hall Funeral Services on Sunday, October 6, 2024 from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.  Cremation will follow and a Celebration of Maria’s Life will be held in the Spring of 2025.

Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins get bucked off in 2-1 loss to Melfort Mustangs

The Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins have yet to see their first win of the season but got close in their recent match against the Melfort Mustangs.

The Mustangs had a strong start in the first periods, going up 2-0, with the Bruins only managing to get one in the third period and failing to catch up.

Head Coach Jason Tatarnic believes that the team did well despite the scoring deficit.

Estevan intersection under construction, blocking access for the day

The city of Estevan announced that one intersection will be closed off as crews are working through the day.

That intersection will be located at the corner of Nicholson Road and Grundeen Crescent, in the north end of the city.

The city thanks citizens for their patience during the construction.

The family wishes to announce that Margaret Zelionka passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at the Redvers Care Home at the age of 86 years.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Hall Funeral Services, Redvers, SK with Rev. Lourdhu Raju Bandhanadam presiding. Interment will follow at the Redvers Town Cemetery.

Who is running in the provincial election?

With the provincial election campaign kicking off today, there are 226 people, so far, who have announced their intention to seek a seat in the Saskatchewan Legislature, across the 61 ridings of the province. So far, just the two incumbent parties, the Saskatchewan Party and the NDP, have full slates of candidates nominated by the party. The Green Pary has 59 candidates listed so far as well.

Minimum wage in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, P.E.I. increases

The minimum wage in four provinces is going up today.

Saskatchewan's minimum wage is going up by a dollar to $15, but it will still be the lowest in Canada, along with Alberta.

In Manitoba, the rate is going up by 50 cents to $15.80, a hike that follows a formula set in provincial law tied to the rate of inflation of the previous calendar year.

The rate in Ontario is rising by 65 cents to $17.20 an hour, an increase tied to inflation.

Canadian MPs join Australian, New Zealand peers in pushing for Palestine statehood

Canadian members of Parliament are working with their colleagues in Australia and New Zealand to try and convince their respective governments to jointly recognize Palestinian statehood.

NDP MP Heather McPherson, who is leading an effort to recruit Canadian MPs, said building on work the three governments have already done might be the best leverage to advance a two-state solution.
