For over 100 years the Salvation Army has blessed people in need around the holidays and they're kicking off their Christmas Kettle campaign with an inspiring breakfast.
"The city of Winnipeg and the province of Manitoba have been incredibly supportive of the work of the Salvation Army, knowing it makes a difference in the lives of their neighbours," says Major Al Hoeft, the Divisional Secretary for Public Relations of the Salvation Army, Prairie Division.

We've seen the Queen's Jubilee Medal program celebrate Queen Elizabeth's 50 years as monarch, followed by the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal commemorating 75 years on the throne. A medal is forged for each significant milestone of the monarchy in Canada, and the next is the King's Coronation Medal.
Portage-Lisgar MP Branden Leslie says the medals haven't been delivered yet, but 20 have been allocated to his office for the region’s representation.
Canola growers encouraged to scout for blackleg
Blackleg is a disease in canola mainly caused by the fungus Leptosphaeria maculans. It’s a serious disease that affect canola plants in the seedling stage by attaching to the stems and working up the stem as it grows, inhibiting the movement of water and nutrients within the plant. It can cause upwards of 50% yield reduction in severe cases. Blackleg was first spotted in western Canada in 1975 in north-east Saskatchewan.
Survivors call on Canada to criminalize residential school denialism
Residential school survivors are calling on Canada to criminalize residential school denialism, echoing one of the findings in a report about unmarked graves and burial sites associated with the institutions.
Doug George, a survivor of the Mohawk Institute, said Canadians need to acknowledge the schools' place in history and to ensure the children who died are not silenced.

Peter Wesley Nikkel, 83, of White Rock, BC formerly of Elm Creek and Winnipeg, passed away Saturday, October 19th at White Rock Hospice Centre. He is survived by his wife Diane, 1 daughter, 2 sons, and their families. He was predeceased by his son David Wesley.
A memorial service for Peter Wesley Nikkel will be held Monday, November 4th at 1pm at Peace Portal Alliance Church in South Surrey, BC.

The Southwest Cougars are riding a seven-game win streak. The Cougars scored five first period goals en route to an 8-2 victory over the Yellowhead Chiefs Wednesday night in Souris. Connor Hoemsen had a hat trick and Lynden Gould had a goal and three assists for Southwest. Slater Anderson, Eric Berger, Spencer Cullen and Taylor Lockhart also scored for the Cougars who went 9-1 in October. Southwest netminder Brodie Cameron made 33 saves.
Foreign affairs minister seeks support for plan to return deported Ukrainian children
Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says she hopes countries from around the world will support a plan to bring back Ukrainian children who have been deported to Russia since the war in Ukraine began nearly three years ago.
Joly urged more than 70 delegations attending a ministerial conference in Montreal on Wednesday to make a “strong pledge” to ensure children and other Ukrainian civilians and prisoners of war are returned home.

On Tuesday, Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet said he will make good on his threat to work with the other opposition parties to bring the Liberals down with a non-confidence vote.
