The following is the RCMP report to September 23, 2024.  This reporting period, police responded to the following calls for service.

- 29 traffic violations

- 19 provincial statute (Mental Health Act, Fire Prevention Act, Coroner's Act, 911 Act)

- 30 common police activities (alarms, suspicious persons/vehicles, assistance to general public)

- 41 crimes against property 

- 16 other criminal code

- 9 crimes against person

- 7 traffic accidents

Dauphin RCMP make large seizure after traffic stop

Media Release - Sept 25, 2024

On September 22, 2024, at approximately 6:45 pm, Dauphin RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Mountain Avenue in Dauphin as part of an ongoing investigation. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle by activating the lights and sirens on the police vehicle, the suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.

Manitoba extends gas tax holiday

Manitoba motorists will continue to benefit from lower fuel prices for at least three more months.

Premier Wab Kinew announced through a press release on Wednesday that the gas tax holiday will be extended until December 31st. It was set to expire on September 30th.

The gas tax holiday removes the 14 cent Provincial Sales Tax. It has been in place since early January.

Erratic driver leads to arrest - Brandon Police Sept 25th Report

Domestic Assault

On September 24th police responded to a report of a domestic assault in Cornell Bay. A 30-year-old male and a 31-year-old female had a dispute, and both stated the other assaulted them. Both were arrested and charged with Domestic Assault. Both were released on an Undertaking with the male having a future court date of December 9th, 2024, and the female’s court date is December 12th, 2024.

Best course of action to be determined to eradicate zebra mussels from Clear Lake

Eradication methods are being considered to remove zebra mussels from Riding Mountain National Park.

"There are many approaches to eradicating zebra mussels. At this time, Parks Canada is considering all options to eradicate zebra mussels in Clear Lake using the best available science, Indigenous knowledge, and in consultation with third-party experts in the field," shares Mireille Kroeker, Public Relations and Communications Officer for Riding Mountain National Park. 

Province asks Manitobans to vote for favorite Health Card

The Manitoba government is following through on its commitment to deliver a new and modernized health card this year and as part of the next step in the process, Manitobans are invited to help choose the design of the new card, Premier Wab Kinew announced today.

“The initial response to our new health card designs was amazing,” said Kinew. “However, we want to make sure that all Manitobans have the opportunity to provide feedback on which card best reflects our unique province and people. Let us know and have a say about our province’s new health card.”

Liberals launch pandemic preparedness agency, seeking faster vaccine development

The federal Liberals are creating a new agency to beef up Canada's ability to handle rapidly spreading infectious diseases and protect from future pandemics.

Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne said the agency is meant to preserve the "top-gun team" of public servants that helped steer Canadians through COVID-19.

Health Emergency Readiness Canada is being tasked with boosting Canada's life-sciences sector and ensuring Canadians get faster access to vaccines, medical therapies and diagnostics by accelerating the transition from research to commercialization.

Funeral For: Terry Hiebert 
Funeral Date: October 1, 2024 
Terry Hiebert, 65, of Zhoda passed away Friday, September 20th at her residence. She is survived by her husband Martin Bergen, 2 daughters and one son. 
The funeral service for Terry Hiebert will be held Tuesday, October 1st at 2pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with burial at Randolph Cemetery. 
Viewing will be held at the chapel prior to the service.

Helen Harder

Funeral For: Helen Harder 
Funeral Date: Private family graveside service at a later date. 
Helen Harder, 94, of Winkler formerly of Plum Coulee passed away Monday, September 23rd at Salem Home. She is survived by 3 grandsons and their families. 
She was predeceased by her husband John and 1 son. 
Cremation has taken place. 
A private family graveside service for Helen Harder will be held at a later date. 
Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
