The Strathmore United Church held a special concert on Sunday, May 4.

The concert was put on by the Rosa Cantorum choir as they performed a variety of songs, including gospel, folk, and selections by Gordon Lightfoot.

Although admission was free, all the money raised through the show was given to the family of Jennifer Therriault, as her daughter Maggie prepares for a multi-visceral transplant.

The chief of staff to Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is defending a business class flight he charged to taxpayers, citing a health condition that increases his risk of blood clots.

The flight in question was a return flight he took from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to Calgary earlier this year when he accompanied Smith to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump.

The CBC reported this week that the two-day stop in Florida for Smith, Anderson and two others cost Alberta taxpayers about $10,000, with Anderson's flight home billed at nearly $3,000 alone.

The Conservative caucus has tapped former leader Andrew Scheer to lead the party in the House of Commons when Parliament resumes on May 26 — a role that's needed because Pierre Poilievre lost his seat in last week's election.

Seven children were injured following a crash in southeast Calgary on Tuesday, May 6.

The crash was just before 9 a.m. and involved a black Acura sedan and a school bus at the intersection of 40th Street and 14th Avenue S.E. 

According to police, there were seven children on the bus, with all of them treated for minor injuries. However, the drivers of the bus and Acura were not injured.

Police are currently investigating the cause of the crash. 

The City of Chestermere opened up its boat launch on Saturday, May 3.

The city said that the opening comes alongside a software update for registrations.

"Because of the upgrade, everyone must register their boats again this season when you come down to the launch," wrote the city on social media.

Carney says Canadians will 'never' put a price tag on sovereignty

After months of listening to Trump talk about annexing Canada, Carney told the president in the Oval Office that Canada will "never" be for sale.

The Government of Alberta will be testing its emergency alert system on Wednesday, May 7.

According to a social media post by Rocky View County, the test will be sent out just before 2 p.m.

"It’s only a test, but it’s also a great opportunity to check in with your household and talk about what you would do in a real emergency," wrote the county.

The county also recommends that residents download the Alberta Emergency Alert app on their phones.

Drumheller councillor Lisa Hansen-Zacharuk passed away over the weekend.

The town announced her passing through social media, saying that she passed after a "long and courageous battle with cancer".

Hansen-Zacharuk was first elected to Drumheller Town Council in October 2010 and served on several community boards.

“Lisa wasn’t just a colleague, she was a dear friend,” said Mayor Heather Colberg. “We shared two terms on Council together, and her passion for this community was second to none."
