Whether you're a rodeo fanatic, a live music lover, or just here for the outrageous food, the 2025 Calgary Stampede is serving up fresh thrills. Here’s your roundup of what’s new, wild, and delicious at this year’s Stampede!

The Old West will be on full display as thousands clad in tassels, boots and buckles march through city streets today to kick off the Calgary Stampede.

Country superstar Shania Twain will saddle up and lead the parade on horseback before performing Saturday at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Stampede runs until July 13.

The “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” singer, who was raised in Timmins, Ont., last took the stage at the Stampede in 2014.

Value Days: Free admission and big-time perks

There was a huge turnout for the Canada Day celebrations in Strathmore.

There were a few new attractions this year, including several markets and a roller rink at the Strathmore Municipal Library.

"It's always great to see our residents, businesses, and community groups come together to celebrate this great country," said Johnathan Strathdee, communications manager with the Town of Strathmore.

With the last few years bringing rain on Canada Day, this year instead saw hot temperatures reaching around 34C. However, the town had a plan to cool residents off.

New Blood, a play based out of Strathmore High School, had its final show of the season last month.

The students performed the show in Medicine Hat, which was free for all to attend. The night also marked the last time that Trinity Pretty Youngman would be playing the lead role.

Pretty Youngman got the part three years ago, being mentored by Hayden Yellow Old Woman, the show's original actor.

Two coal companies suing Alberta's government over its mining policy flip-flop say they've reached a settlement agreement with the province.

Notices published online by Evolve Power and Atrum Coal dated last month say details are confidential, and no dollar figures are disclosed.

Atrum, in its notice, said its agreement is definitive, though Evolve's notice says the terms of its own settlement are being finalized.

Company works with the Farming Smarter Association as it searches for options other than the century-old Russet Burbank variety

Russet Burbank has been the go to potato variety for Canadian farmers and consumers.

This year, McCain Foods in Chin, Alta., has entered a corporate partnership with the Farming Smarter Association to explore the viability of other varieties in its food processing plant for farmers to consider.

Farming Smarter is using one of its commercial plots to do a research trial growing four varieties using six treatments.

Hundreds of teddy bears were donated to Wheatland EMS by Nutrien. 

The bears, 245 in total, were presented to Wheatland EMS outside of their offices on Wednesday (July 2), with this being the first time in nine years that local paramedics have taken part in the program.

"We typically give the bears to kids we see on emergency scenes," said Ryan Dahl, interim CAO with Wheatland EMS. "It helps with calming them down and making a good memory instead of a bad memory."
