Wheatland County under Severe Thunderstorm Watch
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for Wheatland County, including Strathmore, Lyalta, and Carseland.
The watch was announced on Tuesday (June 17) due to conditions being favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms.
"Driving conditions may be difficult," wrote Environment Canada. "Strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles."
The group also asks that residents stay indoors during a thunderstorm, as lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
ADOPT funding announced
Saskatchewan's Agriculture Demonstration of Practices and Technologies (ADOPT) projects, and Strategic Field Program (SFP) benefit from Federal-Provincial Sustainable CAP funding.
Farmers benefit from the practical, short-term research projects conducted through the ADOPT, which they can then use on their own operation.
For the 2024-25 fiscal year, more than $1.4 million was invested in six SFP and 32 ADOPT projects.
Canada pledges $4.3B in support for Ukraine as Carney, Zelenskyy meet at G7
Prime Minister Mark Carney outlined $4.3 billion in new support for Ukraine's defence as he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Alberta on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister's Office said that sum includes $2 billion for weapons like drones, ammunition and armoured vehicles — funding that Canada will count toward its NATO defence spending target.
Canada is also lending Ukraine $2.3 billion to help the embattled country rebuild its infrastructure.

He is good with dogs, kids and cats in the home- but would chase a cat at large.
Housetraining will improve after his neuter as he does mark currently, and trustworthy in home.
He is learning some extra manners with the team at Alpine to walk on leash, and live in urban life with more relaxed energy. He’s so friendly and excited for life!
Jackson will do best moving with his housemate Bella, however he would be separated if we cannot move them together.

Revamp coming for Canada’s national pig code
Canada’s Code of Practice for Care and Handling of Pigs is up for review, a process expected to be compete by 2028
Canada’s national pig code is getting an update.
‘We’ve launched the code of practice with the National Farm Animal Care Council,” said Stephen Heckbert, executive director of the Canadian Pork Council.
The Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Pigs will be guided by the development process set out by the National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC), the spearheading body for Canada’s various livestock codes.
Construction begins at The Lakes of Muirfield
Wheatland County has begun infrastructure upgrades in The Lakes of Muirfield community.
Construction crews started work on June 16 and are expected to continue working through September.
Reconstruction is scheduled for Township Road 252 from June 24 to July 8. Paving of the road is planned for Aug. 30.
Muirfield Close, Muirfield Crescent, and Muirfield Boulevard will undergo concrete work throughout June to July 31. Asphalt work on those roads is scheduled to take place from Aug. 7 to Sept. 18.
Border bill raises questions about expanded data sharing with U.S.: Citizen Lab
An organization that monitors the effect of information flows on human rights says the new federal border security bill appears to "roll out a welcome mat" for expanded data-sharing agreements with the United States and other countries.
Researchers with The Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto say they want the federal government to reveal more about the information-sharing implications of the bill due to a possible risk to human rights.
