A blazing show of gratitude between Carlyle Fire and Rescue and their Carnduff counterparts
Carlyle Fire and Rescue has donated $25,000 to Carnduff Fire and Rescue as a thank-you for their support during this year’s northern wildfire response.
Carnduff firefighters Mike Pirie and Randy Spencer joined Carlyle’s team up north for a week, stepping in when Carlyle could not fully staff their unit.
"We were short guys and couldn’t put a full crew together, so Carnduff stepped up and ran our truck for us," said Carlyle Deputy Fire Chief Rob Klassen. "That was the whole reason for the donation."
Blast from the past: Heritage Threshing Days return to Midale
The Souris Valley Antique Association (SVAA) is preparing for the 59th Annual Heritage Threshing Days in Midale, taking place this long weekend.
President of the SVAA Glenn McGregor says the weekend will feature events attendees look forward to every year, including the Threshermen’s Parade and live threshing demonstration, with the addition of some new buildings to the Heritage Village as well.
“We have a few new additions in there this year that we're working on. They're not all going to be ready, but we're definitely working towards getting them there.”

With profound sadness, we announce the sudden death of Patrick “Pat” James Dean.
Pat was born in Calgary Alberta, on May 10th,1957 and raised in Drayton Valley Alberta. He travelled all over Saskatchewan as an RCMP and would eventually retire in Weyburn Saskatchewan. Pat died on July 20th, 2025, in Kennedy Saskatchewan.
RCMP investigating thefts in Midale
Two suspects were reportedly arrested after a string of incidents in Midale on the weekend.
In a Crime Watch Advisory issued by the Weyburn RCMP detachment Saturday morning, they advised they had received reports of suspects who were breaking into vehicles and stealing items. It was reported that there were possibly two men and one woman involved. The Advisory stated they had been stranded in Midale as their vehicle was abandoned.
Weyburn's arts community continuing non-stop
Summer exhibitions at the Weyburn Art Gallery are still drawing crowds, but work is well underway for the fall exhibition, and the Weyburn Arts Council will be looking at some big events as well. From an immersive new installation at the gallery to a nearly month-long celebration of culture, and a call for artists for one of the most popular events in the winter, the local arts scene is going to be busy for the coming months.

The Supreme Court of Canada has dismissed a request to hear an appeal from Achter Land and Cattle regarding an earlier court decision that found a thumbs-up emoji served as an agreement to a grain contract. South West Terminal launched a claim for damages after Achter Land and Cattle failed to deliver on the contract.
Souris Avenue still closed for watermain work

Unique exhibits showcased at Weyburn Art Gallery
Visitors to the Weyburn Art Gallery this summer can experience two completely different worlds of art, with a showcase of local potters running alongside a powerful exhibition from northern Saskatchewan artists.
