Red Wings Come Away Empty-Handed from Estevan
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings found themselves in tough Wednesday night when they travelled to Estevan to take on the Bruins. While the Wings managed to keep the game close until the third period, Estevan would rattle off three goals in a span of two minutes, giving them a 5-0 victory at Affinity Place.
Red Wings Recognized in SJHL Weekly Awards
The SJHL named their players of the week Tuesday afternoon, and the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings saw three players get recognized for their efforts on the road trip to Melfort and Flin Flon on the weekend.
Red Wings Close Out Road Trip With Gutsy Effort
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings ran out of time in Saturday’s game against the Flin Flon Bombers. The Bombers would score two goals in the second period to take the lead, and held on to win 6-4 in the second meeting in as many days for the two teams.

Red Wings Silence Raucous Crowd in Flin Flon
Turning aside 42 of the 44 shots he faced at the Whitney Forum, Boston Gelowitz recorded his first-ever win in the SJHL Saturday, backstopping the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings to a 5-2 victory over the Flin Flon Bombers.
“Boston Gelowitz was great again tonight,” said Red Wings head coach Cody Mapes after the game. “It’s not an easy rink to come into and try to get your first SJHL win, and I couldn’t be happier for him and the guys.”
He was supported by offence from all quarters, with Beau Larson, Nick Dobson, Austyn Hansen and Troy Hamilton.
Last Second Goal Stymies Red Wings In Melfort
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings found themselves down early in the second period Wednesday night against the Melfort Mustangs. The team would rally back, thanks to stellar play in net by Boston Gelowitz. The comeback, however, would come up just short, as the Mustangs would find a way to score with just seven seconds left in the game, winning 4-3.
“In the end, we gave ourselves a chance to win,” said head coach Cody Mapes after the game. “We probably didn’t start the way that we would have liked; in the second half of the game there was a lot of good things.”
Five Red Wings Suspended
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings will be shorthanded on their three-game road trip that starts Wednesday night in Melfort.
Late Tuesday, the SJHL announced five players from the team had been suspended for violating the league's social media policy. The league did not specify how the players violated the policy, or when the violation took place.
Davis Chorney was given a five-game suspension, while Jackson Fellner, Nicolas Kovacs, Sam Skillestad, and Nik Sombrowski were suspended three games each.

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings held the lead over the Melville Millionaires for the majority of the game Friday night, but a pair of third period goals would swing the momentum back to the Millionaires. Melville held on to skate to a 4-3 win over the Wings.
Melville had initially jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game. Noah Wills scored 1:39 into the first period, and it was followed up with a goal by Zach Cain at the 1:54 mark.
Red Wings End Homestand With Loss
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings closed out a four-night, three-game homestand Monday night as the La Ronge Ice Wolves came to town. The Ice Wolves themselves were finishing off a five-night, four-game road trip. La Ronge would capitalize on a pair of goals by Aaron Greyeyes and hold on to top the Red Wings 3-2.
Fans Skate With Red Wings
After capping off their second win in as many nights, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings invited fans in attendance to join them on the ice for a skate. Dozens of kids of all ages took part in the skate, getting autographs, playing tag, and getting to know the players.
“It’s nice giving to the kids, skating with them,” said Red Wing forward Nik Sombrowski during the skate. “Obviously they look up to us, so getting out here with them makes our day, and it’s a great time.”
