RCMP releasing new picture in hopes of finding person responsible for fatal hit-and-run
Morinville RCMP is asking for help in identifying the people responsible for a hit-and-run that killed a woman.
Police say the incident occurred in February of 2022 on Highway 28 north of the Anthony Henday.
19-year-old Angel Cardinal, an Edmonton resident, was killed.
RCMP has been investigating the matter but has not been able to identify the people responsible for the fatal collision and is asking the public for any possible tips regarding the case.
2023 Federal Budget - Agriculture highlights
Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland delivered her 2023 Federal Budget on Tuesday.
Some of the highlights for the agriculture sector included:
- $57.5 million has been designated over five years for the creation of a Foot and Mouth Disease vaccine bank and to develop emergency response plans
- $34.1 million over three years through the On-Farm Climate Action Fund has been earmarked for farmers in Eastern Canada that pay tariffs on fertilizer imported from Russia to support nitrogen management practices
Vehicle hit deer on Highway 21
Strathcona County RCMP has released some more details on this morning's collision on Highway 21.
Police say that, just after 7 a.m., a single vehicle collided with a deer while travelling in the northbound lanes of the highway near Township Road 540.
The woman driving the vehicle was the sole occupant. She sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.
Crews were on the scene but have since cleared the area.
Sherwood Park Knights capture CJHL championship
The Sherwood Park Knights have captured their second consecutive CJHL championship.
After a hard-fought playoff run, the Knights capped it off with a dominant 5-2 Game 5 win over the St. Albert Merchants on Tuesday (Mar. 28) night to take the final series 4-1.
"It feels great," said head coach Rick Rishaug. "This team has worked extremely hard, and we battled through a bunch of adversity, injuries, and sickness."
New roundabout coming to Fort Saskatchewan
Drivers in Westpark should be on the lookout for something new on the roads this year.
A new roundabout is reportedly coming to Westpark Drive.
The city says that construction on the new roundabout will begin sometime this year. No specific location or timeline for the construction has been revealed.
This will be just the second roundabout in the city, with the other being located in the south end connecting 94 Steet, Southpointe Boulevard, and Sienna Boulevard.
Update: Highway 21 collision cleared
Emergency crews were on the scene of a collision on Highway 21 this morning.
Strathcona County RCMP says that a single vehicle in the northbound lanes of the highway collided with a deer near Township Road 540 just after 7 a.m.
The sole woman driving the vehicle sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.
Emergency crews have successfully cleared the area.
RCMP looking for victims of alleged serial fraudster from Fort Saskatchewan
The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP is asking victims to come forward after a man was arrested for several fraud-related crimes.
Taylor Berezowski, 22, is being investigated for multiple Facebook and Kijiji scams around the area in early March.
So far, Berezowski is charged with fraud-related crimes in Fort Saskatchewan, Edmonton, and Vermillion. However, it appears the incidents involve significantly more people, including many outside of the province.
Meet the chilli king of Bruderheim
It was a chilli weekend in Bruderheim!
The Bruderheim Community Church held its annual chilli cookoff on Sunday (Mar. 26).
This free event featured residents of the town cooking up their pots of chilli, reviewed by a panel of judges.
Of all the chilli pots, the gold medal was handed to Cody Bartz. Originally Bartz would just make chilli for his family, but once his church started their friendly competition, he was enthusiastic to join.
Road closure near Ardrossan began with Edmonton police chase
More details have come out surrounding the road closure near Ardrossan on Monday (Mar. 27) afternoon.
Edmonton Police Service (EPS) responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle near 119 Avenue and 35 Street. Upon arrival, police say they noticed a blue Dodge minivan leaving the area with a mismatched license plate.
Officers report that they began covertly following the vehicle as it headed towards the Yellowhead overpass. While stopped at a red light, the minivan reportedly made a sudden U-turn, which ended up striking an unmarked police vehicle.
Cattle producers see strong prices in Q1
2023 has seen some positive movement in market prices for the cattle sector.
Anne Wasko, a cattle market analyst with Gateway Livestock, says cattle producers have seen some record movement in prices for fat cattle this year setting a new all-time record high for fat cattle in Western Canada breaking the previous 2015 high.
She says the gains the industry has seen are long overdue, noting that in 2022 prices in Western Canada were well off the mark compared to the U.S.
