Elk Island National Park (EINP) has undergone their yearly bison transfer. 

This time around, nearly 200 plains bison were transferred out of the national park to help maintain healthy herd numbers. 

"The herds grow 10 to 20 per cent per year," said Jonathan DeMoor, an ecologist at the park. 

The northern lights were painting the skies above Fort Saskatchewan last night. 

Residents took the opportunity to whip out their cameras and capture the beautiful sights. Luckily, they were nice enough to then share the stunning photos on social media for everyone to enjoy! 

One person was even able to capture a photo while flying above the community!

A Fort Saskatchewan hockey player skated in the Kids World's Longest Hockey Game a few weeks ago. 

13-year-old Jaxson Coombs, who plays for the U15 B Rangers, hit the ice to help raise money for the Ben Stelter Fund. 

"My dad's friend invited me out to play," said Coombs. "I think I joined because it was a good cause." 

About 80 kids between the ages of 11 and 16 took part in the three-day non-stop event in Strathcona County. Of course, nobody played the full three days, instead subbing on and off in shifts. 

The cows on Lyuba Pastushok's farm are like her "cheeky children," she explained in Ukrainian as she walked among her growing herd, gently cooing to them and softly petting their heads.

A few years ago there were only five cows on her small family operation in Holoskovychi, a rural community an hour and a half east of the nearest city of Lviv, in western Ukraine.

Now she tends to 25 cows, six of which she bought after Russian forces invaded the country. 

The new season of Canada's Got Talent airs this month, and one of the contestants is from Fort Saskatchewan.

Chris Hammer and his dance crew Cool Giraffes are competing for the chance to take home a huge cash prize.

Hammer wasn't always a dancer, he said. Originally, he started out figure skating.

"I got put into dance to help my skating, and then I eventually just loved it, so I stayed in it for many years," Hammer said.

How many lost pets did Fort Saskatchewan municipal enforcement take in last year? 

One of the responsibilities of the animal control unit in the city is to take in pets that are deemed to be lost, which mostly consist of dogs and cats. 

"We have an animal care facility just next to the RCMP detachment," said Maryjo Webster, a community peace officer. "We will scan the animal to see if it has any identification, such as a collar with a tag and phone number on it, a city license, or if it has a microchip or tattoo in its ear."

An increase in student transportation funding across the province could help families save money.  

The province has announced that school authorities across Alberta will be receiving an additional $414 million to help support school transportation. 

That money will be provided over the course of three years starting with $93.5 million in 2023-24, $160 million in 2024-25, and $160 million in 2025-26. 

The RCMP has arrested and charged three people who were allegedly involved in a St. Albert break-and-enter. 

Last Thursday (Mar. 9), police responded to complaints of a break-and-enter at a St. Albert storage facility. Police say they arrived and located two individuals before placing them under arrest.

According to RCMP, a third person was located with the help of police dogs and subsequently arrested. 

These fifth-graders were flying high as our monthly winner.
