McMahon Stadium in Calgary turns 65 ahead of Labour Day Classic
This Friday (August 29) marks 65 years since the first-ever home football game at Calgary’s McMahon Stadium, the long-time home of the Calgary Stampeders.
Built in just 103 days, the stadium first opened on August 15, 1960, under a 99-year lease with the City of Calgary.
Its construction was made possible thanks to a $300,000 donation from Calgary oilmen Frank and George McMahon to the University of Alberta in Calgary, which later became the University of Calgary.
Two Estevan coaches chosen for Skate Canada International apprenticeship
Estevan is making its mark on the national figure skating scene. Two coaches from the Estevan Skating Club, Ashley Piper and Jolene Steenburgen, have been selected as apprentice coaches for Skate Canada International, a prestigious program that allows coaches to learn from Olympic-level mentors.

Earlier this month, the Southeast Steelers softball team were at the Bob Van Impe Stadium in Saskatoon, SK pitting the best in Canadian softball against one another in the Softball Canada National Championship.
Sports Round-Up: Wednesday, Aug. 27
The Moose Jaw Warrior's 2025 training camp kicks off today with registration and fitness training. The public is invited to attend all ice times, the first of which begin tomorrow.
Training camp wraps up this Sunday with the team's annual Grey and Red intrasquad game, which you can attend through a donation to the CMHA Moose Jaw.

Slo Pitch playoffs among Day 2 activities at 55+ games
It's playoff day in the slo pitch tournament at the Saskatchewan Senior Fitness 55+ Provincial Games in Swift Current.
The local team, Wrinkled Warriors, still have a shot at it despite an 0-3 start yesterday.
They lost 10-4 to the Regina Ruckus, 14-13 to the Saskatoon Silver Foxes, and 11-7 to the Saskatoon Red Aces.
55+ games officially open in Swift Current
The Saskatchewan Senior Fitness 55+ Provincial Games officially opened yesterday in Swift Current.
"With that I would now open the games for 2025," said SSFA President Al Gabert in front of a large crowd at the InnovationPlex curling rink for the opening ceremony.
Almost 400 participants attended the ceremony which included the teams all marching in together and a supper.
Gabert was impressed after the first day.
Dallas Lequyer represents southeast Saskatchewan on national stage
Two southeast Saskatchewan golfers proudly represented the region at the 2025 Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship in Vancouver this past week. Dallas Lequyer of Carlyle and Marcus Friess of Estevan competed against top amateur talent from across the country at the prestigious Seymour Golf and Country Club, a course known for its beauty and its bite.

Hiebert brings home silver from Canada Summer Games
Track and field star Jared Hiebert returned home from St. John's, Newfoundland with some hardware, claiming a silver medal from one of his three events during the Canada Summer Games.
The events and results
Hiebert was in three events, and he details what they were, as well as how he faired. "In the 100 meter, I finished seventh overall. Our 4x100 relay finished fourth, just slightly off the podium, and I had a second place finish in the 200 meter."
Ramsey, Oil Caps primed for a big step forward
After a long summer, Virden Oil Capitals coach Tyson Ramsey is chomping at the bit to get things going again, and he believes that while things didn't go the way they hoped last year, the team learned a lot and will look to build on it.
