Powell leading Swift Current Special Olympics swimmers to Canada Summer Games

Hundreds of athletes from across the country, including 19 from southwest Saskatchewan, are in Newfoundland as the Canada Summer Games start today.

For Swift Current Special Olympics swim coach Jackie Powell it's her sixth appearance at the summer games.

"The vast organization of putting together a multi-spot competition," Powell said. "It's all the logistics that go behind it. The food services is incredible and all the volunteers. It's pretty cool to see that all come together and for me as a coach to appreciate all that goes on behind the scenes."

Piche helps Prince Albert hoist MacDonald Cup

Third time's the charm for a Swift Current lacrosse player at the MacDonald Cup.

Dawning the Prince Albert Predators jersey, Paul Piche produced two key third-period assists Sunday afternoon as they beat the North Shore Indians 10-8 in overtime to capture the Western Canadian Junior B Lacrosse Invitational.

Piche's second assist of the game came with 1:46 left in regulation as Braden Shewchuk tied the game at 8-8 to force overtime.

Estevan Motor Speedway introduces new races to fans with wingless sprint cars on the track this weekend

The Estevan Motor Speedway is gearing up for another racing weekend, this time featuring a new class of racecar hitting the track. This Saturday is the S&S Piling Equipment Solutions Ltd. Western Renegade Non-Wing Sprintcar Series,  first for the speedway.

Baseball Sask senior provincials continuing this weekend

Three different senior baseball provincial tournaments are taking place this weekend around Saskatchewan. Tier 2 play is going down in Assiniboia, Tier 3 is in Carnduff, and Tier 4 in Hanley as the Baseball Saskatchewan provincial calendar comes to a close. 

Starting with the Tier 3 tournament in Carnduff, the Battle River Baseball League champion Macklin Lakers are travelling nearly 900 km to try and add a provincial banner to their accomplishments in 2025. 

Dawgs eliminate Bombers, await West Division final opponent

The Okotoks Dawgs are heading back to the West Division final in the Western Canadian Baseball League after dispatching the Brooks Bombers in two straight games.

The Dawgs capped the best-of-three semifinal series with a dominant 9–2 win on the road Thursday night.

The Bombers remain winless in postseason play.

The Dawgs, who are chasing their fourth straight WCBL championship, now await the winner of the other West Division semifinal between the Sylvan Lake Gulls and the Lethbridge Bulls.

Battle of the North speeds up as Vigen takes top time on Night 2

The chuckwagons seem to be gaining momentum in Dawson Creek, B.C.

Day 2 of the Battle of the North saw a noticeable speed increase, with the top four times of the night beating the fastest time from Day 1.

Rangeland Derby and Battle of the Foothills champion Chanse Vigen took the top time of the night, jumping up 10 spots to reach number three in the aggregate standings. He's also taken the second spot in the world standings.

High River's Jason Glass finished fifth, dropping him to fourth in the aggregate.

Merek Yeager, Saskatoon Berries keep season alive with 15–6 win in Moose Jaw

Facing elimination after dropping Game 1 on Wednesday night, the Saskatoon Berries turned to Merek Yeager for a crucial start on the mound for Game 2.  

The Muenster product delivered with a quality start as the Saskatoon Berries hammered the Moose Jaw Miller Express 15-6.  

With the win on Thursday night, the Berries evened the best of three series 1-1.  

Saskatoon forces Game 3 against the Miller Express

The Moose Jaw Miller Express and the Saskatoon Berries will be heading to a third and deciding game in the first round WCBL playoff series.

The Berries won Game 2 on Thursday night at Ross Wells Park 15-6 to tie the best-of-three series up 1-1.

Saskatoon jumped out to a 13-0 lead before Moose Jaw finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning. Austin Gurney hit a double to bring home Ben Waliczek. Robert Estrada then singled to score William Edwards. Gurney would score on the same play off an error by the third baseman.
