Alberta's cabinet under new Premier Danielle Smith to be sworn in today

Alberta's new cabinet will be sworn in today at a ceremony at Government House in Edmonton.

Premier Danielle Smith announced who would head the top tier of her government on Friday — a 27-member cabinet supported by 11 parliamentary secretaries.

After this morning's ceremony, Smith and her cabinet will hold a media availability with reporters.

Smith defeated six rivals earlier this month in the leadership race to replace Jason Kenney as party leader and premier, and all but one of the six have a place at Smith's cabinet table.

Bill Blaikie had announced publicly earlier this month that he was entering palliative care.

"We thank everyone for their kind words and gestures over the last week since Bill publicly announced he was transitioning to palliative care," the family's statement said.

Pierre Poilievre was elected as the new leader of the Conservative Party of Canada on Saturday night, a definitive first-ballot victory after a campaign that focused on securing more "freedom" for Canadians.

Here is a look at some key pledges from his leadership campaign.

With the death of Queen Elizabeth II, what happens to our bills and coins?

Canadians are used to seeing Queen Elizabeth II on our money.

But this could change following the death of the longest-serving British monarch and Canadian head of state.

However, the Bank of Canada, which produces Canada's paper bills, says changes likely won't be seen immediately.

It says the current $20 bank note, which features the Queen, is intended to circulate for years to come.

The central bank says there is no legislative requirement to change the design within a prescribed period when the monarch changes.

Sask. premier says flags will be at half-mast one day for each life lost

Flags at provincial government buildings in Saskatchewan are at half-mast as the manhunt continues for two suspects in a stabbing rampage on a First Nation and in a nearby village that left 10 people dead and 15 others injured.

The attacks took place at 13 different locations on the James Smith Cree Nation and nearby Weldon, northeast of Saskatoon, with police getting the first reports on the First Nation before 6 a.m. Sunday.

A dangerous persons alert remains in effect from Alberta to Manitoba for Damien Sanderson, 31, and Myles Sanderson, 30.
