Trudeau, Goodale send hopes for quick recovery after King Charles cancer diagnosis

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is wishing King Charles a speedy recovery after Buckingham Palace revealed the monarch has been diagnosed with cancer. 

Trudeau says after hearing the news, he's thinking about the King, just like countless others across Canada and around the world. 

The palace did not release additional details, except to say the cancer is not related to the King's recent treatment for a benign prostate condition. 

Rocky man arrested near Stony Plain on multiple charges

A man from Rocky Mountain House was arrested and charged in relation to a stolen vehicle with loaded firearms, weapons, and drugs.

On Jan. 27, 2024, Parkland RCMP with the assistance of Enoch RCMP located a stolen vehicle on Highway 16A just west of Stony Plain. In the interest of public safety, a tire deflation device was covertly deployed. The vehicle traveled another 35 kms before coming to a stop, where five occupants were taken into custody without incident.

Key projects announced under the Federal Government's Supply Management Processing Investment Fund

Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay announced an investment today of up to $89 million for 49 projects under the Supply Management Processing Investment Fund.

This Fund is a key part of the Government of Canada's commitment to supporting processors in supply-managed sectors in addressing the impacts of recent international trade agreements.

Mixed results for RDP teams over the weekend

It was a bit of a rough weekend for the RDP Kings and Queens teams over the weekend as they would be up against some tough competition.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team got RDP Athletics off to a winning note on Thursday night as they shut out the Olds College Broncos 6-0. But on Friday night it was a different story. The teams combined went 0-5 as they all faced off against very tough opponents.

As for the Kings Hockey team, they finished their week off with a win against the NAIT Ooks to split their home-and-home series this past weekend.

Booking for Red Deer recreation and community spaces now open

Applications are now being accepted for groups wanting to book Red Deer’s recreation, pools and community spaces for the upcoming fall 2024 and winter 2025 season.

Community associations, sport partners, companies, and the public are encouraged to request their meetings, league spaces and special events.

Red Deer student named RDP Athlete of the Week

Loami Rautenbach, from Red Deer has been named the RDP Athlete of the Week. Rautenbach a second year Bachelor of Science in Nursing student had a very successful season debut this past Saturday at the Kinsmen Sports Centre in Edmonton.

Rautenbach got the Queens off to a great start as she took home first place in the 300m dash which was the first event of the day. She ran the race in 44.16 seconds.

Bower Place has announced United Way Central Alberta (UWCA) as the 2024 Charity of Choice.
