One Liberal MP says he's signed letter asking Trudeau to resign, others remain mum

Liberal MP Sean Casey is the first to publicly confirm that he has signed a letter calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to resign, arguing it would be in the best interests of the country to let someone else take the reins. 

As an internal revolt brews, few Liberal MPs who are not in the cabinet are publicly defending the prime minister. The upcoming caucus meeting on Wednesday appears to present the most serious challenge to Trudeau's leadership to date.

Research on Manitoba Wheat Crop could benefit all prairie farmers

Farmers in Manitoba are being called upon to aid critical research aimed at improving wheat production amid changing climate conditions. 

The University of Manitoba's "Mani Wheat Project," led by Dr. Cristina Rosell’s food science group, is gathering wheat samples from farmers to study the effects of pre-harvest sprouting, a significant issue caused by excessive rain and humidity before harvest.

Neighbor complaints lead to drugs and weapons charges

Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), along with Alberta Sheriffs Safer Community and Neighbourhoods Team (SCAN), began a drug trafficking investigation at a residence in the 4700 block of 52 Avenue in Wetaskiwin after several complaints were received from citizens of the community.

As a result of the investigation, Wetaskiwin CRU, along with the Alberta RCMP Community Response Team, executed a search warrant at the residence on Oct. 18, 2024. During the search, RCMP located the following:

Sylvan Lake CAO steps down

Sylvan Lake Town Council is searching for a new Chief Administrative Officer. Sean Durkin, the current CAO, announced he is leaving the organization.

Edmonton man faces over 30 charges relating to threatening phone calls in Red Deer and Calgary

A 29-year-old Edmonton man has been charged following a joint investigation between Red Deer RCMP and Calgary Police Service.

Between the period of November 2022 and February 2023, Red Deer RCMP General Investigations Section (GIS) received multiple reports of indecent phone calls being made to real estate agents and others in similar occupations. 

These calls were made by an unknown male who made threatening and sexual comments. 

Red Deer RCMP looking for suspect following hammer attack

Red Deer RCMP are asking for the public's help in identifying a male suspect involved in an assault with a weapon outside of a downtown business on Oct. 17, 2024 at approximately 6:40 a.m.

Officers attended the business and learned that an unknown male had attempted to hit the victim with a hammer. The victim was able to use their car door to protect themselves and leave the situation unharmed.

Big Brothers Big Sisters launching Festival of Wreaths fundraiser

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Lacombe & District recently wrapped up its 40 Mentors in 40 Days Campaign.

Executive Director Brianna Berthiaume says they had 34 volunteer inquiries this year.

"Those inquiries, they're all taking the next steps to make that positive change and make that difference. We're really excited," she commented.

BBBS also held its first annual Rubber Duck Drop Fundraiser September 28 in Blackfalds, raising $6,000.

Red Deer RCMP are seeking public assistance in locating missing 17-year-old Trenton Nepoose. 

Trenton Nepoose is described as:

  • 5 feet 8 inches and approximately 185 pounds
  • Medium complexion
  • Brown and brown eyes
  • Last seen wearing a white hoodie, blue vest, black pants, a black backpack and white/grey shoes
  • Cross tattoo on top of right hand
