Clive Fun Fest on this weekend

This weekend, the Clive Fun Fest will be back with events for the whole family.

This year's celebration kicks off with a pancake breakfast on Saturday at the Clive Hall from 7:00 am to 10:30 am followed by a parade at 11:00 am. There will be BBQ fundraisers, a petting zoo, penny carnival, and an inflatable obstacle course at Clive School.

Fireworks on Saturday night at the soccer field will start from 11:00 pm

2024 inductees selected for Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame

Four agricultural champions from across Canada have been selected by the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame as its 2024 inductees. Dr. Bruce Coulman, Dr. Michael Eskin, Paul Larmer and Dr. Charles Vincent will be formally inducted on November 2 at a ceremony during the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, Ontario.

Ponoka RCMP seeking public assistance in locating armed robbery suspects

On June 15, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Ponoka RCMP responded to an armed robbery at the Liquor HQ in Ponoka.

Investigation has determined that one male suspect entered the store armed with a machete and began smashing the front counter area. He then went and stole several bottles of liquor from the shelves.

A second suspect guarded the exit armed with a large knife.

Both suspects fled the store with several bottles of unpaid liquor.

No injuries reported.

Innisfail RCMP charge Clearwater County resident with arson

On June 19, at 7:58 a.m., the Innisfail RCMP received a report of an individual spraying gasoline on a commercial building East of Innisfail.

While on route, RCMP were advised that the suspect had lit the gasoline and business was on fire. Reports also indicated that the suspect had fled in a vehicle.

Police quickly located the vehicle and suspect who was arrested.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze, however there was significant damage to the building. 

No injuries were reported.

Grain Growers ask farmers and consumers to help protect the family farm

Prairie farmers are being encouraged to let their thoughts be known on the impact the changes to the Capital Gains will have on their operations when it comes into effect June 25th.

The Grain Growers of Canada have set up a site "protectfamilyfarms.ca"  for people to sign a petition and register to email their MP on the damage  Ottawa's proposed changes will have on family farms.

NATO secretary-general urges Ottawa to meet its defence spending target

Canada needs to meet NATO's minimum defence spending target, and present a plan on how it will reach it as a way to show authoritarian regimes that Western allies are aligned, said the alliance's secretary general on Wednesday.

Numbers NATO released this week show Canada is expected to spend 1.37 per cent of its gross domestic product on defence this year, well below the two per cent target.

Drugs, firearms seized from Red Deer home

Five firearms were seized alongside nearly a quarter million dollars’ in drugs and cash after a Red Deer home was searched.
 
Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) Red Deer’s organized crime team searched the home on May 23,  with help from Red Deer RCMP. The home, located in the Eastview neighbourhood, contained a large amount of drugs and firearms with five suspects being arrested.
