RCMP advise of potential traffic disruptions this weekend due to protest

The Central Alberta RCMP are advising motorists of the continued protest occurring on the QE II Highway at the Juniper Lake Rest Stop near Lacombe.

The protest has the potential to cause traffic disruptions over the long weekend.

Police advise that often times these protests have included vehicles conducting a “slow roll” consisting of a small convoy of vehicles driving below the speed limit on the highways.

Motorist are advised to expect delays or take alternates routes.

Lacombe student joins Premier at 2024 Trades and Technologies Summit

A Lacombe Grade 12 student joined Alberta’s Premier at a summit that highlighted trades and technology in education. 

Sophia Vilcsak, a senior at École Lacombe Composite High School, represented Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) at the College of Alberta School Superintendents’ (CASS) 2024 Trades and Technologies Summit on May 14.

Sylvan Lake Councillors and H.J. Cody Students take part in Moose Hide Campaign Day

On Thursday, May 16th, Sylvan Lake Council members and students from H.J. Cody High School took part in Moose Hide Campaign Day.

Participants put on a symbolic moose hide to pledge a commitment to ending violence against women and children.

The member gathered at H.J.Cody School grounds where a teepee was also set up.

RCMP drone pilot project starts today in Red Deer

The Alberta RCMP is testing the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) technology in Red Deer today (May 17) until May 26.  

The testing is being conducted to determine if drones can be used to support public safety in response to active calls for service and to provide situational awareness for on-the-ground officers.  

Red Deer RCMP make arrest following drug trafficking investigation

On April 30th, Red Deer RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS), with support from Police Dog Services (PDS), Red Deer RCMP Intelligence Analysts and K Division Digital Forensic Services, concluded a four month long investigation into the trafficking of illegal drugs within the city Red Deer.

Police executed search warrants on two residences: one located in the Johnstone Park neighbourhood of Red Deer and the second property located in the Allard neighbourhood of Edmonton.

Police seized a total of 28.7 grams of cocaine and 45,000 dollars in Canadian currency.

Sunny visits Ponoka Elementary School for Classroom of the Month

Sunny was warmly welcomed by Miss. Orantes' Grade 4 class today at the Ponoka Elementary School for Classroom of the Month.   

Before heading to the school, we loaded up the station vehicle with prizes from sponsors and stopped at Boston Pizza Ponoka to grab some pizza – and it was delicious!  

Alberta lottery winner given reading glasses after almost missing $5M

Norman Stretch is not planning to lose track of his reading glasses again anytime soon, after mistaking a $5 million win on the April 13 LOTTO 6/49 draw for a $5,000 one.

“I thought I’d won $5,000 because I couldn’t find my reading glasses,” he laughed. “I called my friend to show him, and he said, ‘Check again with your glasses on, dummy!’” “Sure enough… it was $5,000,004!” he laughed.

RCMP investigating found human remains

On May 5, 2024, Drumheller RCMP were notified of possible found human remains.

A person had been off roading in a rural area south of Delia and found what was believed to be human remains.

The bones were collected and transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary, who determined that the remains are human. An Anthropologist has been engaged to date the remains.

The investigation continues.
