Mayoral candidate Chris Clacio is the youngest person running and he hopes to remove barriers of oppressive systems if elected.

"I decided to run for mayor, since, back in 2014 I originally wanted to run for mayor just so I could be engaged and more young people felt like they were engaged," says Chris Clacio. "If more young people saw a young person run for the highest level of office in the city, then they can be engaged in any level of politics."

Clacio spent a year working with urban Indigenous young people in Winnipeg's inner city. 

By-Election Day in the City of Grande Prairie is today (Oct 17) and residents are reminded to vote at their assigned voting station between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Residents will elect one City Councillor to fill a vacancy for the remainder of the current 4-year term, ending in 2025.

Candidates running for the position of City Councillor are:

Robert-Falcon Ouellette is taking another run at the mayor's seat.

Ouellette served as a Liberal MP for the riding of Winnipeg Centre after his first campaign for Winnipeg's mayor. Now he's back in city politics and says his time in the nation's capital has prepared him to lead the city.

He says his top issue is homelessness, something that is impacting people's sense of safety, especially in the downtown, as well as crime rates.

He also has plans to increase ridership on Winnipeg Transit by lowering fairs, and improving city roads. 

The incoming Reeve for the R.M. of Morris is looking forward to his new responsibilities.
    
Scott Siemens was the only person to submit their name as a candidate for Reeve in upcoming municipal election and therefore, has been acclaimed to the role. He starts at the end of October. 

"I enjoyed my first term here on Council and felt ready to step in to a different role and learn those responsibilities," he explained when asked what prompted him to seek the job. 

It's been two weeks since Siemens was acclaimed.

Mayoral candidate Idris Adelakun believes that a lot of change must happen to make Winnipeg a better place to live and he feels up to the challenge if elected. 

Adelakun received a Ph.D. in Leadership Organizational Management from Carolina University, USA, and is a professional engineer and project manager in Winnipeg. 

"I decided to run for mayor because I wanted a city that works for everyone," says Adelakun. "When I was thinking of that a few months ago in terms of homelessness, addictions, and mental health, I think we can improve on that."

Three of the five wards in the Fort La Bosse School Division will be holding elections to select trustees.

Elections will be held in Ward 1, Ward 2 and Ward 4

Senior Election Official Kent Reid says October 26th is election day and polls will be open from 8:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m.

The Hanover School Board is saying farewell to four trustees who have decided they will not run for re-election this month. 

Mohammad Tahir Khan will be looking for your vote on October 26th as he is running for Mayor of the City of Portage la Prairie.

Khan says there are seven main points he will be looking to make during this campaign. It starts with business, which he calls the back bone of our economy. He notes many businesses have closed in the city, and he wants to reveal his business incentive plan to invite and encourage business people to open up shop in Portage.

The second point he wanted to make, involved solving the crime issue in the city.
