Duct cleaning scams still thriving on Facebook, here's what to look out for

Duct cleaning scams remain prevalent on Facebook, and, thanks to ever-changing tactics, they also remain dangerous.

They can be seen in local Facebook groups, and involve posts claiming to offer duct cleaning services at a discount, often including pictures of incredibly dusty vents or people who supposedly work for the company in question.

High Riverite Evelyn Parker hired a cleaning service from one of these posts about a year ago, partially because she thought she was helping a new family in town.

Manitoba farmer Tyler Fulton is the new President of the Canadian Cattle Association. The Birtle area cattle producer moved into the role during the organization's recent annual meeting in Ottawa.

"Well, I'm excited," shared Fulton. "I'm a little tentative just given the political environment and the geopolitical environment and the reliance on trade. Overall, I feel well prepared, well supported, and so in that sense I'm excited to take on the challenge, and do my best to just represent cattle producers across the country with all the sectors covered off."

Fake jewelry scam resurfaces in Alberta communities, including Okotoks

A known jewelry scam is once again resurfacing in many Alberta communities, including Okotoks.

It involves scammers approaching people claiming to need money for something like gas, groceries, or car repairs, and offering to sell the person some jewelry at a steep discount.

When victims attempt to resell the jewelry to a jeweler or other reputable buyer, they discover it to be fake.

An Okotoks business warned locals of one of these scams just last week, and Cpl. Ryan Edwards with the Okotoks RCMP has confirmed they have received a report.
