Halloween votes are in with bragging rights on the line

Light Up High River, the Halloween edition, brought out hundreds of trick-or-treaters and they've all cast their votes.

From the scary to the spooktacular to the family-friendly ghosts, the bragging rights have now been decided.

In the residential half of the contest, we have a repeat winner.

The BONE YARD on 19th Street took top honours with all the bragging rights to go with it for the second consecutive year.

Former Okotoks Oiler involved in scary incident in game last night

Former Okotoks Oiler Dylan Holloway is back with the St. Louis Blues after collapsing on the bench in last night's (Nov. 5) game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Holloway took a shot in the neck during the 3-2 win over the Lightning. He would finish his shift after getting hit in the jugular but after returning to the bench it was clear something wasn't right as he lost consciousness and had to be taken out of the game on a stretcher.

Alberta government to fund one year of increased costs for rural RCMP

The Alberta RCMP are going to be receiving more funding from the provincial government.

For one year, that is.

The province is on the hook for providing policing services to municipal districts, counties, and urban municipalities with a population lower than 5,000 people.

In 2019, the Alberta Government announced they were increasing funding for RCMP services due to an increase in rural crime at the time.

That funding helped to create hundreds of additional positions in the RCMP around the province.

Trump clinches victory; Trudeau touts Canada-U.S. relationship as 'envy of the world'

Donald Trump clinched the United States election after a tumultuous campaign as Canadian officials espoused the important relationship between neighbours in congratulations to the former president on his extraordinary comeback.

"I will govern by a simple motto: promises made, promises kept," Trump said to cheering party faithful at a Florida watch party.

Trump was elected the 47th president of the U.S. amidst a deeply divided America by prevailing among voters in the key battleground states.

Culvert installation will close a road in Foothills County

A culvert is going to be installed in Foothills County, causing a road to be closed for the day.

The Public Works Department for Foothills County will be closing a portion of 336 St E on Wednesday (Nov 6) so they can install a culvert.

The road will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., so the work can be completed.

Traffic can detour around the work using either 466 Ave or 304 St E.

High River's looking at developing a new neighbourhood in the NW

The Town of High River continues to grow, and it looks like a new neighborhood is on the way.

The new Eagleview neighborhood is being planned just north of Eagleview Estates in the northwest part of town.

Township Planning is organizing an Open House to get your feedback on their draft plan.

The meeting is set for next Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Highwood Golf Course in the Wellman Room from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

New campaign aims to keep Alberta squeaky clean of rats

A new campaign is being launched to help keep Alberta rat-free.

The “Rat on Rats!” campaign is being launched by the federal and provincial governments via a $110,000 investment through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership’s Resiliency and Public Trust initiative.

According to the Government of Alberta, the province has held the designation for about 70 years, a feat attributed largely to the Rat Control Program.

Mid-week warmth coming to the Foothills

Residents of the Foothills will be treated to a few unseasonably warm days in the middle of their work week.

Thursday (Nov. 6) and Friday will see daytime highs of around 15 degrees, which is sure to be a welcome break from the bitter conditions that have started to set in so far this month.

Justin Trudeau congratulates Donald Trump on his U.S. presidential win

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is extending congratulations to Donald Trump on his re-election as president of the United States. 

Trump staged a major political comeback, securing the necessary 270 electoral college votes to win the presidency in the early hours of Wednesday morning. 

This concludes a turbulent campaign for Trump, which included being convicted of 34 felonies in a hush-money case and two assassination attempts.
