What you need to know as Trudeau fights to retain leadership of the Liberal party

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has resisted calls for his resignation for more than a year now but in recent weeks those calls have grown louder and in some cases more public.

The Liberal caucus meets Wednesday and Trudeau is expected to be confronted by a group of MPs who have banded together to try and finally convince him to go.

Here’s what you need to know ahead of this meeting. 

A new provincial grant will help grow municipal infrastructure

The Alberta Government has a new grant that will help communities grow their infrastructure to help meet demand.

Minister of Municipal Affairs, Ric McIver, stated in a media conference on October 22 that they have heard from municipalities that they need some help to keep their infrastructure up with the demand placed on it due to the recent population growth the province has seen.

Unspecified number of Liberal MPs set to confront Trudeau, ask him to step down

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will face down his own caucus members in a hotly anticipated meeting this morning, as several of them plan to try to convince him to step aside.

Rumours have circulated for weeks about an undisclosed number of Liberal MPs who have signed on to the effort to oust the prime minister in the hopes of improving the party's chances in the next election. 

That promises to make the regular weekly caucus meeting on Parliament Hill extra tense, as Trudeau has showed no signs of stepping down from the top job.

Okotoks RCMP are on scene of a collision involving pedestrians

The Okotoks RCMP are currently on scene of a serious motor vehicle collisions involving two pedestrians.

The collision occurred on 15th Street near the Okotoks Badminton Centre.

15th Street between 338 Ave East and 322 Ave East will be closed for some time while the RCMP Collision Reconstructionist is enroute.

They are asking people to stay away from the area.

Ottawa remembers reservist killed in Parliament Hill attack one decade later

Ottawa marked the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack on Parliament Hill Tuesday, but for the family of the reservist who was killed that day the memory is still raw.

"I can't believe it's been 10 years. It felt like it was yesterday," said Ephraim Cirillo after a private family ceremony held at the National War Memorial Tuesday morning.

Fire Restriction lifted in Foothills County

Following Monday's (Oct. 21) snowfall, several Southern Alberta municipalities have lifted their fire restrictions.

That includes Foothills County, the M.D. of Willow Creek, and the Calgary Forest Area.

Foothills County's Fire Restriction was put in place back on Sept. 12.

The Calgary Forest Area was under a Fire Advisory since Oct.8. and the M.D. of Willow Creek's Fire Restriction was put in place on Aug. 16.

The Town of Stavely has also removed their Fire Ban, which was in effect since July.

Work begins on Okotoks and Foothills water pipeline

The long-awaited Foothills Okotoks Regional Water Project is now underway.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Monday (Oct. 22) for the project, which was established to provide a new water source to the Town of Okotoks and Foothills County in order to accommodate growth in the area.

The water pipeline will pump raw water from the confluence of the Bow River and the Highwood River to the town and county.

Mustangs come up short against Olds

The Highwood High School Mustangs came up short against the Olds High School Spartans in a 37-13 football game on Friday (Oct. 18).

The game marked the final home game for the Mustangs as they will play their final game of the regular season on the road.

Friday night (Oct. 25), Carstairs will host the final game against the Mustangs as they aim to end the season on a high note.
