Bisons take part deux in meeting with Flyers

Carstar Okotoks Bisons forward Sam Callahan continues to be a problem for teams around the HJHL, as he added two assists in the 5-1 win over the High River Flyers tonight (Nov. 2) at the Murray Arena.

It was the second meeting of the 2024-2025 HJHL season between the Foothills rivals, with the Herd now holding a 2-0 series lead over High River.

CSIS tracked intelligence flow across government in foreign interference leak probe

Canada's spy service tracked the flow of its intelligence reports across government and studied how other agencies handled them as part of an investigation into leaks of classified information about foreign interference, a newly released memo shows. 

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service described the "tireless efforts" in the memo prepared for staff who were keen for an update on the probe into unauthorized disclosures to the media. 

Callahan nets five goals in Bisons thrashing in Three Hills

Sam Callahan has been a scoring machine for the Carstar Okotoks Bisons, and tonight (Nov. 1) was no different as he scored five goals in a 15-1 clinic against the Thrashers in Three Hills.

Callahan is now firmly in the lead for most goals in the HJHL with 18; the next closest is a tie between Kyle Woolridge of the Medicine Hat Cubs and Brandon Harnack with the Ponoka Stampeders with 13. Callahan has also positioned himself at number two in the league for most points with 24 after tonight's six-point night. Justin Gyori is at number one with 25 points.

Murphy's Law makes an appearance at Flyers home opener

What was turning out to be a special night for the High River Flyers tonight (Nov. 10) ended in an unpredictable circumstance in a season filled with whirlwinds for the Flyers.

High River put on a show to start their 2024-2025 HJHL home opener with player introductions, a smoke and light show, and a ceremonial puck drop against the Rocky Rams. It was the first Flyers home game since game four (April 30, 2024) against the Bisons last season.

Friday, November 1

The Dewdney Players Group Theatre's new play, "Noises Off", will be performed at the Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton's Evan Hazell Theatre, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Oilers add forward depth in trade with Brooks

The BCHL Interior Division rivals have made a trade with the Brooks Bandits, sending forward Brock Souch to the Okotoks Oilers for future considerations.

Souch started his junior career with the Sherwood Park Crusaders during the 2022-2023 season. He would produce 35 points with 12 coming from goals during his rookie season.

The 2006-born forward split time between the Crusaders and Bandits last season adding 62 points in 58 games. This season Souch has played in eight games and accumulated a goal and an assist on the season so far.

Drilling for Oil: Olivier Ciarlo

Laval, Quebec-born goaltender Olivier Ciarlo has quickly become a household name for the Green Army as he has been a backbone for the Okotoks Oilers in his first season with the team.

Ciarlo spent the last four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar and the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada before heading over to the BCHL this season.

B.C. port employers issue lockout notice in labour dispute with foremen union

Ports in British Columbia could potentially be paralyzed again starting next week, as the latest labour dispute has triggered a provincewide lockout notice from employers against a union of more than 700 foremen.

The BC Maritime Employers Association says in a statement that it will "defensively" lock out members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 514 starting Monday at 8 a.m., shutting down all cargo operations provincewide but leaving cruise ships and operations for grain vessels unaffected.
