Mustangs SV Girls volleyball punch their ticket to the post-season

The Highwood Mustangs SV Girls' volleyball team punched their ticket to the post-season with a 3-0 set victory over the Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School Spartans (STS) on Wednesday (Oct. 23).

The first set was all Highwood, as they took it convincingly with a 25-9 set score over STS. In the second set, Highwood came out strong, putting up 9 points before STS was able to get their first point in the set. The final score in the second set was 25-14 in favour of the Mustangs.

Senior Modi cabinet minister linked to India-supported violence in Canada: officials

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister David Morrison has confirmed a report that Canada is alleging an Indian cabinet minister and close adviser to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ordered intelligence-gathering operations targeting Canadians.

The Washington Post first reported that Canadian officials alleged Indian Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah was behind a campaign of violence and intimidation targeting Sikh separatists in Canada.

Morrison told MPs at the national security committee Tuesday that he was the one who confirmed Shah's name to that newspaper.

Update: Collision slows traffic near Highwood High School

Traffic was slow moving in an area of High River.

Drivers were advised to exercise caution following a collision that occurred on 12th Avenue, directly across from Highwood High School.

Emergency services responded to the scene shortly after the incident was reported on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 29).

As of now, there are no updates regarding any injuries related to the collision.

National survey gives producers a better look at what practices can spread around Canada

The Beef Cattle Research Council (BCRC) wrapped up their inaugural cow-calf survey and is sharing some of the results with people around the country.

The BCRC, funded thanks to check-offs from cattle sales in Canada, put on the survey to find how producers are working with their cattle and what practices could be adopted in the future.

Okotoks Mayor talks about voting tabulators after recent bill 20 announcement

Bill 20 will be taking effect at the end of the month, and that bill will remove tabulators from municipal elections.

Okotoks Mayor, Tanya Thorn, says that removing voting tabulators from elections is a terrible idea, especially due to the fact that only a minority of those who voted on the change wanted them to get rid of voting tabulators and go back to hand counting the votes.

Foothills Bantam Eagles put up valiant effort against the Colts

The Foothills Bantam Eagles put up a valiant effort against the Calgary Colts in their first-ever Division 1 semi-final appearance, falling just short in a 24-14 football game on Saturday (Oct. 26).

The Eagles were playing on the Shouldice Artificial Turf Hellard for their semi-final appearance. The score was close at the end of the first quarter with the Colts leading 8-6 after the Eagles missed a two-point conversion.

At the end of the half, the Eagles were down by 10 points with the Colts leading 16-6.

The Town of Diamond Valley is card free for the day

Those who plan to make payments at the Diamond Valley Town Office won't be able to pay with their debit card.

The Town took to Facebook this morning to let people know that their debit machines at the Town Office are down.

If anyone is wishing to make a payment with the Town today will have to pay with either cash, cheque, or e-transfer while the system is down.

RCMP are offering tips on how to keep the little ghouls safe this Halloween

Halloween is right around the corner, which will draw all the ghouls and ghosts from their hiding spots.

With all the extra monsters, ghouls, goblins, ghosts, and superheroes on the street this week for Halloween, the Alberta RCMP are offering some tips to keep everyone safe.

While out trick-or-treating, it is advised to wear brightly coloured costumes and use with reflective tape, glow sticks, or a flashlight to be visible to drivers, and stay in well-lit areas.
