Focus on possibly treasonous MPs could become 'kangaroo court': ex-minister

A former public safety minister says he is very worried the unfolding conversation about some parliamentarians being complicit in foreign interference is becoming a "kangaroo court." 

Marco Mendicino told a commission of inquiry into foreign meddling Thursday it is important to follow due process under the law before jumping to conclusions about the conduct of parliamentarians. 

Four Oilers get their first goal of the season to take first ever meeting with Prince George

It was a night of firsts for the Oilers as they dowsed the Prince George Spruce Kings 6-3 in their first-ever meeting in the BCHL.

The Green Army was treated to a win and bore witness to four members of the Green and Gold earning their first goals of the season.

Olivier Ciarlo made the start in net for the Green and Gold with some new gear and backstopped the Oilers to a win while making 22 saves in the contest.

The Spruce Kings opened the scoring in the game with a goal from Ethan Montroy just over four minutes into the game.

Okotoks RCMP charge two people found sleeping in a stolen SUV

A call to Okotoks RCMP about a suspicious vehicle resulted in two arrests.

On Thursday (Oct. 10), Okotoks RCMP responded to the suspicious vehicle call, finding two people sleeping inside an SUV.

It was parked on the side of the roadway with a sunshade blocking the view into the vehicle. Officers soon discovered that the SUV had been reported stolen from Calgary.

Drilling for Oil: Ryder de Nys

Okotoks Oilers defenceman Ryder de Nys is back with the Green and Gold for another season after getting his first taste of Okotoks Junior A hockey in the 2022-2023 season. 

The offensive defenceman for the Oilers has seen it all since he first started with the Oilers during their last full AJHL season, and is a mainstay of the backend for the Oil for their first full season in the BCHL.

Turkey production has rebounded

While there are many ways to celebrate Thanksgiving, many people will have enjoyed sitting down to a nice juicy turkey.

Thanksgiving and Christmas are the two biggest seasons for turkey consumption,  but over the last few years, the industry has launched a campaign to broaden that reach.

Chair of the Turkey Farmers of Canada  Darren Ference says more and more people are now eating whole turkeys or turkey parts throughout the year.

Aquatics Expansion petition is now in the Town of High River's hands

A group of concerned High River citizens handed in a petition to the Town on Monday.

It was started on Friday, September 27 available to the public the next day and was handed in well before the 4 p.m. Monday deadline.

The petition opposes the Town of High River's proposed bylaw to allow them to borrow $15 million in order to complete the Aquatics Centre expansion.

Carol MacMillan, spokesperson for the group says she's very grateful for the 75 or so citizens who helped collect the signatures and get them in on time.

Upcoming closures in High River over Thanksgiving long weekend

With the Thanksgiving holiday upon us, town closures are coming to High River.

All the expected facilities will be closed on Monday, October 14.
