Playoff rivalry renewed after 25 years - Terriers and Flyers game 2 Sunday in Portage

When the puck dropped Friday night and the MJHL playoff series between Portage and Winkler started, the two teams were doing something that hadn't happened since the 1990's - facing off in the playoffs. In fact it was 25 years ago in 1999 when the two squads last met up in the post season, four years before any of the current  players were even alive.

Flyers take Game 1 against Terriers

The Portage Terriers fell 4-1 in game 1 against the Winkler Flyers on Friday night. Two early Winkler goals were too much to overcome for the Terriers who had a hard time sustaining pressure.

Both teams started physical with a clear playoff intensity. Portage managed a couple opportunities before Mike Svenson scored low glove side for Winkler on a two on one rush. The Flyers added another a few minutes later with Daniel Siso in the box for cross checking. Jace Legaarden was left alone in front of the net and went upstairs to make it 2-0 Winkler.

Senior hockey sees several former Terriers suit up in league finals

The Portage Terriers are gearing up for their playoff run right now, but some alumni are already nearing the end of their season in the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League (SEMHL) and Tiger Hills Hockey League (THHL). Many of these former players are having a big impact on their current teams.

The Ste. Anne Aces are facing off with the Warren Mercs in the final, with the Terriers represented on both squads.

Terriers and Titans battle tonight on the tip of playoffs

The Portage Terriers end off the regular season tonight with a contest against the Neepawa Titans, a rescheduled game after it was postponed two weeks ago due to poor road conditions.

Neepawa, for the first time in almost 20 years, has beaten the Dogs more times than they have lost.

The Terriers haven't recorded a win against Neepawa yet this year, and have one final opportunity in this game.

Portage has locked up third place in the MGEU East Division, and will face Winkler in the first round of the playoffs.

Terriers try to tune up performance for playoffs

The Portage Terriers look to start a win streak tonight against the Freeze after an explosive offensive performance against the Winnipeg Blues on Wednesday night.

The Dogs put up 7 goals against the Blues on Wednesday night, and look to finish their road schedule with the another strong performance.

Portage has won four of their last five, while the Freeze haven't found the win column in their last 14 games.

The Portage Terriers held their annual awards night presented by the Terrier Ladies Auxiliary on Wednesday night after the game against the Winnipeg Blues.

Terriers aim to iron out issues from last night against Winnipeg

The Portage Terriers look to rebound from a tough night in Dauphin last night with a contest against the Winnipeg Blues tonight.

Portage has yet to lose againt the Blues this year, winning all five contests by a combined score of 28-8.

The Blues sit second last in the MJHL and have lost their last seven consecutive games and have given up double digits in two of those games.

Portage has won three of their last five, with losses bookending that stretch.
