‘Super fresh’ score in RWB world premiere: Cris Derksen and Julian Pellicano in studio
The Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s latest production features a double bill: the return of Carmina Burana and the world premiere of T’əl: The Wild Man of the Woods by choreographer in residence Cameron Fraser-Monroe.
In the pit will be longtime artistic partners, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of RWB Music Director and Principal Conductor Julian Pellicano. Joining them will be cellist and composer Cris Derksen, whose music is used in the new work.
Cool Concert: Winnipeg Wind Ensemble presents Fire and Ice this Sunday, April 28th
This Sunday, April 28th at 3:00pm at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, The Winnipeg Wind Ensemble (WWE) will be holding their third concert in the 2023-24 season.
Called Fire and Ice this concert will feature music of Stravinsky, Pierre Dubois, and David Maslanka, amongst others as performed by one of the premier Wind Ensembles here on the prairies.

Sir Andrew Davis dead at 80
The celebrated English conductor made a deep impression on musical scenes stretching across three continents.
Born in Ashridge, England, Davis' first major post was as associate conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra before crossing the pond as music director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, beginning in 1975.
For 13 years, he served in the role and is credited with helping raise the global profile of the orchestra through tours of China, Europe, Australia and Northern Canada.

On April 19th 2024 the Halifax based music label Leaf Music released the Debut Solo Album by Canadian Pianist David Potvin. Called Catharsis, this album features music written by three wonderful Canadian composers Jean Coulthard, Cris Derksen and Keiko Devaux.
