Mustachioed Music: Marking Movember on Classic 107

This is the month of Movember. Around the world men are growing moustaches to bring awareness to men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s suicide. The Movember Foundation has raised millions of dollars to help fund over 1200 hundred research projects in more than 20 countries.

Tune in to Intermezzo at 1:00pm this week, as Chris Wolf and Terry Klippenstein feature music composed by these five furry-faced composers.

Dark Ice: Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq opens new exhibit that explores climate change in the North

This Saturday, November 18th the Museum at the Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq will open a brand new exhibit called Dark Ice. This is a collaborative exhibit that was conceived by artists Leslie Reid of Ottawa and photographer Robert Kautuk of Kangiqtugaapik (Clyde River) Nunavut in collaboration with the Ottawa Art Gallery.

Sarah Bernstein wins $100K Scotiabank Giller Prize

Montreal-born, Scotland-based author Sarah Bernstein has won the 2023 Scotiabank Giller Prize for her second novel, Study for Obedience.

Known as the biggest night in Canadian literature, the announcement was interrupted when several anti-Israel protesters jumped onstage during the live telecast before being escorted out by police.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the $100,000 Giller award is presented annually to the author of the best Canadian novel, graphic novel or short story collection published in English selected by a five-member jury panel.

On Friday morning, the nominations for the 66th Annual Grammy Awards were revealed. 

Music's biggest night is still a few months away, but the nominees for the 2024 Grammy Awards have been official revealed. The Grammys will be presented on Sunday, February 4th 2024. The full list is up on www.grammy.com

Students get "Up Close and Orchestral" with the WSO

It isn't every day that an orchestra shows up on your doorstep. But for students at three schools in Winnipeg, that is exactly what happened earlier this week. 

"Up Close and Orchestral" had the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra performing in the gymnasiums at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute, John W. Gunn Middle School, and Fort Richmond Collegiate.
