Sask. to introduce budget with priorities on health care, education, crime

Saskatchewan is set to table its budget today outlining the province's plans to boost spending on health care, education and crime reduction. 

Premier Scott Moe has said increased investment in those areas is meant to reduce surgical wait times, improve Grade 3 reading levels and make communities safer. 

Moe has also pledged to freeze the education property tax while providing more money to municipalities. 

This is the Saskatchewan Party government's first budget since Moe was re-elected premier last fall.

The Museum's Exit the Horse explores an age of transport transition

A generation of elders that made its way on farms and towns solely with horse drawn power has all but vanished. That transition to motorized travel is the focus of the latest exhibit at the Humboldt and District Museum.  

Exit the Horse: The Early Years of Canadian Motoring is a travelling exhibit that has motored on over to Humboldt from the Canadian Automotive Museum thanks to funding from the Government of Canada. 

Novia Scotia MP looking forward to working with Western Canada as new federal ag minister

Canada has a new Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister after Mark Carney took over as Prime Minister last week. Kody Blois, an MP from the Nova Scotia riding of Kings-Hants has been tapped for the role.

Blois says he has plenty of experience in the industry being raised in an area where agriculture is important.

Liberals lagging behind other parties on nominating candidates as election looms

With a federal election call expected any day now, the Liberal party has only nominated about half of the candidates it would need to have a full slate on the ballot even as their polling numbers have been jump-started following their recent leadership race.

There will be 343 ridings contested in the upcoming vote and the Conservatives have nominated candidates in 275 of them so far. The NDP has 217 candidates and the Green Party has 208.

Consumers could find 'meaningful savings' as carbon price ends: Desjardins

Canadians can expect to feel the absence of the consumer carbon price at the pumps immediately but it may take longer to notice a difference in the price of other goods, a new report released Wednesday suggests.

The analysis by Desjardins Economics comes less than a week after Prime Minister Mark Carney and his new Liberal cabinet ordered that the consumer levy be set to zero on April 1.

The carbon price came with a quarterly rebate to offset the cost of inflation; the final rebate will come in April.

HOOPLA Draw released

HOOPLA is set for this weekend in Saskatoon, on Tuesday, the draws were announced for each division. 

There are four teams remaining in each category. 

For 2A boys, the St. Brieux Crusaders are the top seed and will meet (#5) LCBI of Outlook. The other semifinal will see (#2) Norqauy meet (#3) Saskatoon Christian Academy. St. Brieux will be trying to repeat as provincial champions.
