Musical mirth and moon madness this week at the Reid Thompson Library
More summertime excitement is on the way to the Reid Thompson Library with a pair of special events coming up this week.
On Thursday, July 11, those who have their eyes on the skies will love the visit by the Starman (aka Ron Waldron) to the library. Two presentations include the 15-minute NASA sponsored planetarium show Max Goes to the Moon for children from Grades 1 to 2. Max the astronaut dog helps mankind return to the moon, this time for good. A special virtual planetarium trip to the moon follows.

Dodgers lose high-scoring affair against the Brewers
The East Central 15U AAA Dodgers lost a high scoring matchup at home, with a 12-10 loss to the Saskatoon Brewers on Monday night.
Luke Manz and Jaxson Schleper each had a pair of RBIs at the plate. Schleper led all Dodger hitters with three hits at the plate.
The Dodgers were leading 6-1 heading into the top of the 4th inning before the Brewers scored four runs to cut the deficit to one. The Dodgers added three runs before the Brewers took the lead with five runs in the top of the 7th.
Growing developments in Humboldt
To create affordable multi-unit housing like apartments or townhouses, Humboldt City Council has begun the process of rezoning a couple of pieces of land to allow the development of these types of properties.
At last month’s meeting, city council gave first readings to zoning amendments that would allow the possibility for development of new multi-unit housing units in Humboldt.
Maple Leaf Foods is creating a new pork business
Maple Leaf Foods is splitting its operations and moving the pork business into a new publicly traded company.
In a statement on the company website, Curtis Frank, President and CEO of Maple Leaf Foods says as separate companies, Maple Leaf Foods and the new Pork Company will each have exciting prospects, a sharpened execution focus with its own dedicated management team.
Canada Beef is looking at new marketing opportunities
Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay announced over $6 million for the Canadian beef industry yesterday.
Canada Beef will receive over $5.8 million for market development and promotion.
Canada Beef plays a key role in market development worldwide, with offices in Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Mexico, and Hong Kong.
Lanigan surveying for potential new programs and events
With a growing community, Lanigan hopes to expand their offering of programs and social events.
There is a survey now online asking residents to complete that would allow the Recreation Department an understanding of what interests Lanigan.
The survey asks what new programs and social events for community members to participate in among other questions.

Heat warnings issued in Western Canada
Heat warnings have been issued for areas in Western Canada, due to a ridge of high pressure making its way across the country.
“While the core of the epicenter of the heat is located further south over Northern California, it is expanding north and east this week,” explained Jennifer Smith, national warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada.
