St. Peter's College and USask announce full four-year Bachelor of Nursing program in Muenster

There’s excitement in the air at Muenster’s St. Peter’s College as the College and the University of Saskatchewan jointly announced that USask’s full four-year Nursing Degree program will be available at the College.  

A joint release from St. Peter’s College and the USask College of Nursing states that the expanded partnership reflects the “learn where you live” philosophy, giving students from east central Saskatchewan the opportunity to study nursing closer to home. 

Free Fishing Weekend in Saskatchewan

Along with the sizzling summer temperatures, there will be another incentive to head to the lake this weekend with it being Free Fishing Weekend (July 13 &14) in Saskatchewan. 

Residents and visitors of the province are welcome to drop a line and give angling a try, no license required. 

During the weekend, anglers can fish without a license on any public waters open to sport fishing. 

Concert and BBQ at Museum on Thursday

Summer means grilling time, and the Humboldt & District Museum Gallery will be offering a concert and BBQ on Thursday from 11:30-1. 

Brian Grest and Walter Bushman will be on hand providing a musical performance sponsored by the Humboldt Area Arts Council.  

The proceeds of the BBQ will go towards art and culture programming for the museum and gallery.

Royals earn 7-1 win against the Hoppers

After a lengthy layoff, the Marysburg Royals picked up a 7-1 win in Saskatoon against the Hoppers on Tuesday night.

Thomas Lessmeister pitched a complete game for the win with Cole Bauml knocking out a home run. 

The Royals will head back to Saskatoon tomorrow night for a tilt against the Dodgers with the opening pitch set for 6:30 at Cairns Field

There has been a reported accident at the junction of highway 5 and 2 west of Humboldt. 

STARS is on scene as well as other emergency vehicles.

The west bound lane is closed to traffic.

AFN head told chiefs draft child-welfare reform deal with Ottawa worth $47.8B: source

The head of the Assembly of First Nations has informed chiefs that a draft deal with Ottawa on child-welfare reforms is worth $47.8 billion, a source who was in the room says — more than double what was initially promised.

National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak revealed that number to chiefs and their proxies on Tuesday afternoon, says the source, who was granted anonymity because they were not authorized to share the details publicly.

What is listeriosis, the illness recently linked to a recall of plant-based milks?

Several people in Ontario have become sick with listeriosis in an outbreak that triggered a national recall of certain plant-based milks that may have been contaminated with Listeria. 

WHAT IS LISTERIA?

The Listeria bacterium is found in soil, sewage and untreated water. It can also be found in foods such as meat, seafood, fruits, vegetables and dairy products. 

Beat the heat: Doctor's tips to prevent heat-related illnesses

With heat warnings out for the province, including the Humboldt and Watrous regions, medical professionals are reminding everyone to take precautions when it comes to heat-related illnesses.  

Dr. Stanley Enebeli is a Medical Health Officer with the Saskatchewan Health Authority . He noted those who have chronic medical conditions, infants, the elderly, and those who work outdoors are at a greater risk of developing heat illnesses, which can take many different forms.
