The Winnipeg Sea Bears of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) have retained the first right to negotiate with five members of its 2024 team for the 2025 season.
 
In the CEBL, all players are on single-season contracts, which means every club must sign its full roster each Spring. Free agency for the 2025 season begins Feb. 1. Each club is granted the right to negotiate with players on their protected list from now until Mar. 1 without interference from other CEBL teams.

Winnipeg emergency workers were kept busy Saturday evening.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to three structure fires the night of Saturday, August 31, according to a City of Winnipeg media release.

William Avenue West fire

At 8:37 p.m., WFPS crews responded to reports of fire at a two-storey residential dwelling in the 1900 block of William Avenue West.

It’s the snoring that often brings people into a clinic for a sleep study.

“Snoring and daytime fatigue are the two biggest reasons a person will get tested,” acknowledges Tracey Alcorn. “But there are a lot of other signs and symptoms.”

A busy Winnipeg roadway is open once again following a serious collision involving a pedestrian on Monday night.

A member of the Winnipeg Police Service says the incident took place around 9:30 p.m. at McPhillips Street and Machray Avenue. 

Police say that the pedestrian was taken to hospital "in unstable condition with serious injuries," where they remained Tuesday morning. Police say the victim was an adult woman who has not been identified as of Tuesday morning.

Environment Canada is warning that "significant heat and humidity [is] moving into southern Manitoba this weekend."

The national weather service first put out a heat warning for southern Manitoba, including the City of Winnipeg, on Friday, and has continued it early Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, air quality statements continue for Northern Manitoba as smoke from wildfires continues to cover the north.

The Winnipeg Police Service says that several Jewish organizations have received threats similar to those made across the country in recent days.

Several organizations in cities including Ottawa, Montreal, and Calgary had received threatening messages on the morning of Wednesday,  August 21, 2024. The RCMP provided a national precautionary statement regarding threatening emails sent from an unknown source to many institutions, including Synagogues across Canada.

A Winnipeg teen is recovering from a serious attack and another teen is facing several charges.

The Winnipeg Police Service says in a release that on August 10, 2024, at approximately 11 p.m., North District General Patrol officers responded to the 300 block of Selkirk Avenue for the report of a stabbing where a male youth was found to be suffering from "extensive serious injuries."

Members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service transported the youth to the hospital in critical condition. He was later upgraded to stable condition.
