About 90 per cent of the southeast crop is in the bin, and we had a great time being able to spend time with producers from across the region during harvest again this year.

Giana Denora has been playing soccer for a decade and half. Considering that she’s just begun her Grade 12 year at Dakota Collegiate in Winnipeg, that’s nearly 90% of her life.

“I just fell in love with it,” she says. “I tried basketball, volleyball and track, and I still love track, but soccer stuck with me.”

The 43rd Manitoba provincial election has been called for Tuesday, October 3.

In a poll we ran two weeks ago, the Progressive Conservatives held the overwhelming majority with more than 51 per cent of respondents choosing blue. The NDP came in second with just over 24 per cent and the Keystone Party held almost 8 per cent in the poll. The Manitoba Liberal Party registered 3 per cent of the vote.

The Estevan Police reported charges Monday against three people in relation to a pair of search warrants being executed last week.

The EPS Drug/Intelligence Unit executed search warrants with EPS patrol units and the EPS/Weyburn Police Service Joint Tactical Support Team at a residence on the 400 block of 3rd Street and a residence on the 400 block of Willow Park Greens.

Police seized over 30 grams of cocaine and charged the following people:

For years, Saskatchewan Polytechnic campuses have been composed of a central facility and satellite buildings for some of its programs throughout the cities they reside in. Now, the campus in Saskatoon will have all its programs housed in a brand new, centralized location. The Government of Saskatchewan announced a new, state of the art complex will be developed at Innovation Place on the University of Saskatchewan Main Campus. The two post-secondary institutions are entering into a partnership with the government, who is planning on a $200 million injection of funds.  

Social services from the City of Winnipeg are assisting 15 people who were displaced following a fire at a Main St. hotel.

The City of Winnipeg says in a release that emergency crews were called just after 6 a.m. to a fire in a three-storey hotel in the 700 block of Main St. 

When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke in the building. A fire was located in one of the suites. It had been kept under control by the building’s sprinkler system. Crews were quickly able to extinguish the remaining hot spots.

Maple bugs have definitely been the talk of Estevan over the last few weeks, as large swaths of them have begun to attach themselves inside and outside of people's houses, garages, Manitoba Maple trees and everything in between.  

Dr. James Tansey, the province's entomologist says the reason people are seeing an influx of these pesky creatures in their yards is due to the changing of weather and seasons. 

What can we say about Tuesday? A burst of Summer weather in the middle of September. Lots of sunshine and heat had a lot of people thinking it was the middle of July! It looked like a lot of people were trying to take advantage of it, with bike and walking paths full last night, and the odd lawnmower going, too. Fall officially arrives according to the calendar this weekend however shorts and t-shirts were common yesterday.

Manitobans can begin heading to the polls on Saturday, ahead of the Oct. 3 provincial election.

Advance voting runs for eight days, from Saturday, Sept. 23 until Saturday, Sept. 30. During advance voting, Manitobans can vote at any one of 300 advance polling locations in the province. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday with some exceptions.

There are over 300 advance voting locations throughout the province including every local election office.
