Cold temperatures set to return as weather statements and warnings finally end

After a week of inclement weather, Manitoba residents can finally breathe a sigh of relief as all weather statements and warnings have been lifted. 

However, while the snow may be coming to an end this weekend, a return to bone-chilling temperatures is on the way.

The special weather statement for southern Manitoba has been lifted as the Colorado low finally pushes east, also bringing an end to the blowing snow advisories.

Cyclist killed in collision with snow clearing equipment

Tragedy struck the late last night when a collision between a front-end loader and a cyclist resulted in the death of the adult male cyclist.

The incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. on December 15, 2022, in the area of Mission Street and Plinguet Street in Winnipeg.

The Winnipeg Police Service says in a release that two off-duty Winnipeg Police Service members were nearby and immediately began to provide emergency medical care to the injured cyclist.

Roseau River First Nation youth arrested after violent attack in Winkler

A 17-year-old female from Roseau River First Nation and a 38-year-old Winkler female are facing multiple charges after a violent incident late Monday night. 

Officers were called to a residence in the 100 block of 3rd Street South in Winkler after receiving a stabbing report, which led to them finding an injured 66-year-old male inside his home. 

Calm before the next storm - Round two of snowfall later today from Colorado low later today

As Special Weather Statements continue across the southern half of the province, round two of snowfall will begin this morning from a Colorado low which continues to impact the region. After 5 to 10 cm yesterday, an additional 10 to 15cms is possible Thursday through Friday morning. This time though, it will come with gusty winds which will cause blowing snow. With highways less than ideal already, the Portage School Division has decided not to run any buses today while the Pine Creek division will close all schools. All this, after a relatively calm night last night.

The storm system moving through the area is progressing much the way forecasters have expected so far. This morning, we're waking up to an average of about 5 cm of snow, with that amount slightly lower or higher more depending on where you call home. Amounts are higher as you head south of the Trans-Canada highway. It's the first round of wet snow across the region as a Colorado low moved through Southern Manitoba last night and overnight. Special Weather Statements remain in effect for our region, with significantly more snowfall on the way between now and Friday afternoon.
