Dayna Brons Honorary Award goes to Pats captain Logan Nijhoff

Hockey Gives Blood announced Monday that Regina Pats captain Logan Nijhoff has won the 2022 Dayna Brons Honorary Award.

The Dayna Brons Honorary Award recognizes an individual from Canada’s hockey community who exhibits outstanding dedication towards patients who rely on blood and stem cell products in Canada.

Missing man found safe

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) says that a missing man who had not been seen in 10 days has been safely located.

Edwin Babisky, 63, was last seen on April 11, in the Transcona area of Winnipeg. Police had put out a missing person alert for him on Tuesday.

Police had been concerned for Babisky's well-being, encouraging people to check outbuildings on their properties.

Shortly after midnight on April 21, the WPS sent out a release that Babisky has been found safe.

RCMP and families make plea for help in homicide case

Two grieving moms of homicide victims are making an emotional plea for help in solving the case from 2021. The bodies of a man and woman were found in the ashes of a house fire on September 9, 2021.

The incident took place on Northlands Denesuline First Nation, claiming the life of Brent Denechezhe, 31, and Leona Tssessaze, 24. The RCMP declared their deaths a homicide.

RCMP use helicopter to rescue 3 from winter road

Three adults are safe after the RCMP needed to use a helicopter to rescue them from a winter road in northern Manitoba. 

On April 10 at approximately 11:10 a.m., RCMP received a report of three adults that were stranded on the winter road, approximately 100 kilometres north of Lynn Lake, on their way to Tadoule Lake.

Police say the group had left Lynn Lake at approximately 3 am and then got stuck on the winter road at about 7 a.m. They used a satellite phone to stay in contact with family and RCMP.

Snowfall warning issued for parts of southern Manitoba as Alberta Clipper approaches with possible 20cm of snow

Some areas of southern Manitoba including Westman and the Pembina Valley can expect another 10-15 cm of snow overnight and tomorrow. Some areas near higher elevations may see upwards of 20 cm.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for some regions as the storm moves in.

"Another clipper system has begun to take shape in Montana and will continue tracking eastward tonight," the warning from EC says.

"In southern Manitoba, accumulating snow will begin overnight tonight near the Saskatchewan border and by Sunday morning towards the Red River Valley."

CAA's Worst Roads Campaign returns to Saskatchewan

The popular CAA Worst Roads campaign has returned to the province, allowing all road users the opportunity to vote on the worst roads in Saskatchewan. 

Motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, motorcyclists, runners, and transit riders will be able to nominate and vote on the worst roads until April 30. 

Christine Niemczyk, Director of Corporate Communications and Public Relations for CAA said that a bad road means an unsafe road. 

Man released from custody after 'suspicious' fire kills 3 in Portage

The Manitoba RCMP says that they are continuing to investigate the suspicious deaths of three individuals located in a residence on 7th Street SE in Portage la Prairie.

Officers are reportedly working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of the deaths and to confirm identities.

The adult man who was placed into custody yesterday has since been released.

Storm and blizzard warnings officially declared as potentially historic storm approaches

Southern Manitoba will look very different by Wednesday afternoon as a Colorado low begins impacting the province Tuesday evening.

Environment Canada has now issued a winter storm warning for many areas, including the City of Winnipeg. Some areas in western Manitoba are now under a blizzard warning. Meteorologists still expect widespread snowfall accumulations of 30-50 cm by Friday morning.  Winds gusting at 60-70 km/h are also expected, giving zero visibility at times in snow and blowing snow.

Rises in COVID-19 deaths, hospitalizations, and positivity rate

The number of COVID-19 deaths was higher over the last week in Saskatchewan than the previous week, while the test-positivity rate and number of hospitalizations also increased.

Thursday's figures from the Saskatchewan Health Authority included 24 new deaths, which was up from 20 the previous week.

The test-positivity rate increased week-over-week from 12.3 per cent to 13.2 per cent.
