Falk says several key bills highlighted debate in long sitting
Provencher Member of Parliament Ted Falk is back in the constituency as the House of Commons has risen for the summer.
Falk says the last session wrapped up early Thursday morning, ending a long, 10-week stretch of sitting. He notes the last two weeks in particular were full as MPs sat until midnight nearly every evening debating legislation.
"The last two weeks with midnight sittings just I think really took a toll on all MPs," suggests Falk. "And I think by the time we wrapped up very early Thursday morning, MPs were ready to go home."

More than 300 internationally educated health-care professionals have accepted job offers to work in Manitoba.

$3.4M announcement expected to address crime on our streets
Manitoba's Justice Minister says new provincial funding will enable better prosecution of violent criminals and address crime on our streets.
Kelvin Goertzen says the Manitoba government is taking action to bolster the Manitoba Prosecution Service with a $3.4 million investment. The funding will allow the hiring of 19 new Crown attorneys and six new legal staff to support their work. An additional six new Crown counsels will also be added for the Legal Services Branch to strengthen internal capacity.

Hallmark movie filmed inside Morris Curling Club
The Morris Curling Club was the scene of a movie shoot last week.
Club Manager Gabriel Brandt says an L.A. based production company was onsite last Friday, shooting scenes for a new Hallmark Christmas movie. Brandt says thanks to the fact they are one of the lone curling clubs in Canada to have ice year-round, the production company was able to take advantage of their space.

The Member of Parliament for Provencher says he is excited to welcome two new Conservative members to the team.
There were four by-elections held across Canada on Monday. Conservative candidate Branden Leslie took the Portage-Lisgar seat, while Arpan Khanna won for the party in Oxford, Ontario. The other two by-elections saw Liberal Ben Carr win the Winnipeg South Centre seat and Liberal Anna Gainey win in Notre-Dame-de-Grace-Westmount, Quebec.
"I don't think there were any real surprises in the overall results from (Monday's) by-elections," says Ted Falk.

Rock blasting along Trans Canada will cause traffic delays
There will be some traffic disruptions along the Trans Canada Highway at the Manitoba/ Ontario border beginning Monday.
According to Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI), this is all part of the preliminary work in twinning that highway.
MTI is advising that rock blasting will begin Monday and continue for the next four to six weeks. Traffic will be stopped for each blast for approximately 15 minutes, depending on site-specific conditions and traffic volumes. Motorists are being warned to expect delays.
Goertzen says several bills passed which should have local interest
Manitoba Government House Leader Kelvin Goertzen says a number of pieces of legislation, which should have local interest, were approved prior to the Manitoba Legislature rising for the summer break.
The Legislature rose last week, and Goertzen says one of the main pieces of legislation to be approved was the provincial budget. He notes that is not something that is always approved in spring. And, because of its approval, Goertzen says that means Manitobans will start to see more on their paychecks, beginning this summer.
