Weyburn man sentenced on voyeurism charges
A Weyburn man pled guilty to voyeurism in Weyburn Provincial Court yesterday.
This regarding an incident last October when a video was found on his phone of a young woman he resided with, changing in her room.
He was sentenced to a six-month community sentence order, three months with no access outside his home without court approval, three with a curfew. He will be required to receive sex offender programming and personal counselling.

There was a notable absence at City Council last night. Greg Nikkel, of the Weyburn Review, passed away over the weekend, leaving not only a noticeably empty seat, but a hole in the community that he once filled.

Crescent Point Place, Tom Zandee Sports Arena closed due to mechanical issue
The City of Weyburn announced Crescent Point Place and the Tom Zandee Sports Arena are closed until further notice due to a mechanical issue with the ice plant. According to a release sent from the City of Weyburn, all on and off ice activities are cancelled until the issue is resolved and the ice plant is fully operational.
This includes the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings who announced the cancellation of their game tonight hosting the Yorkton Terriers.

Surprising number of Canadian drivers admit to speeding: CAA releases poll results
According to new public opinion research from the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA), 70 percent of Canadians admit to speeding in a residential area at least once in the last year, half say they regularly speed on the highway, and fully one in five drivers say they regularly drive well over the speed limit.
“Higher speeds reduce drivers’ reaction time and increase the risk to themselves and everyone else,” said Kristine D’Arbelles, senior director, public affairs, CAA National.

UPDATE 10:23 a.m. - Highways directly through Weyburn remain covered with reduced visibility. Highway 39 from Yellow Grass to Moose Jaw is no longer showing as travel not recommended.

UPDATE 8:27 a.m. - Travel not recommended has been removed on highways directly through Weyburn. Everything directly through Weyburn is showing as snow covered, however, with icy and slippery sections and reduced visibility. Highway 39 from Yellow Grass to Moose Jaw and well as the area that turns into Highway 6 is still showing as travel not recommended.

Local schools honour veterans with Remembrance Day Ceremonies
Schools around Weyburn held Remembrance Day ceremonies this week to honour the sacrifices made by veterans for our freedom. Discover Weyburn attended the ceremonies at Legacy Park Elementary School on Tuesday and Assiniboia Park Elementary School on Wednesday.
Legacy Park began with the entrance of the Colour Guard. The grade two classes then performed a song titled "Kindness" followed by the grade five classes with "Everyday Heroes". Mrs. Abel's grade six class then recited a poem.
