HCAA Recognition Awards - Karma Knittig, Kayla Onufreychuk

As is the case each year, the Horizon Central Athletic Division recognizes its own through its Recognition Awards. The Awards were announced at the HCAA Annual Spring Meeting and Luncheon. 

Eight individuals were recognized from throughout the HCAA area. We’ll take a look at two deserving individuals in the first of our four-part series.

The Humboldt Lanigan RCMP investigating February break-ins

The Humboldt / Lanigan RCMP is seeking the public’s help in solving a pair of cases dating back to February 2024. 

The first involves a break-in to a public building in Lake Lenore. On February 24, 2024, the Humboldt RCMP received a complaint that a public building had been broken in to. The occurrence happened between February 23, 2024 at 5:00PM and February 24, 2024 at 9:00 AM. 

Village of Young and contractor fined in illegal dumping case

A Saskatchewan contractor and the Village of Young both pleaded guilty to offenses under the Environmental Management and Protection Act.  

Davnn Contracting from Kenaston pleaded guilty to illegal and operating an illegal landfill on January 9, 2024, and the company was fine $21,000. Then on March 5,2024, the village of Young pleaded guilty to the same offences and were also fined $21,000 and ordered to clean up the site by December 31, 2024. 

STARS Critical Care on the Air Radiothon Presented by BHP raises over $430,000 for STARS operations in Saskatchewan

STARS’ annual Critical Care on the Air Radiothon presented by BHP across 40 radio stations in Saskatchewan raised $433,548 to support STARS operations in the province.

Throughout the two days, community members tuned in to hear courageous and generous stories from Very Important Patients (VIPs), members of the STARS flight crew, community allies, and many more.

Humboldt Theatre Club goes sleuthing with "The Secret Case of Sherlock Holmes"

The ninth production of the Humboldt Theatre Club is on the way with its staging of “The Secret Case of Sherlock Holmes.” The comedy chronicles the life of young Sherlock before his first break. 

The show runs from Thursday, May 2 to Sunday, May 6 at the Community Gathering Place.  

Wakaw/Cudworth Hoodoo Fire Department attend brush fire

Early spring dry conditions led to a brush fire burning out of control 18km west of Wakaw near Highway 312. Responders received the call on April 15th at 6:27 pm.

Firefighters from both the Wakaw and Cudworth halls responded with three Wildland trucks, one tanker and one command unit. On scene firefighters arrived to a fire that was burning out of control in heavy brush. High wind speeds created multiple spot fires in different areas and hampered firefighters' ability to control the fire.

Macrame workshop and teen art display at the Gallery

Everything old is new again, says Jennifer Fitzpatrick, director of the Humboldt and District Museum and Gallery. That explains the return of macrame, a mainstay of 1970’s craft culture, and an associated workshop at the Gallery.
