Earlier today Chris Wolf and his colleague Tanya Blatz, stopped by Lord Nelson School to read to the delightful Grade four class and their teacher Fernando Dalayoan. This was the cherry on top of what has been a phenomenal I Love to Read Month of February.
Fernando entered his class in to the I Love to Read Contest with McNally and Classic 107 and consequently his class ended up being gifted a whole pile of brand new books compliments of McNally Robinson.
Chris sat down with the Grade four class and read a short about Beethoven. He also answered some very inquisitive questions from the students such as, “Why is reading important? What kind of music do you listen to? And how old are you?”
From the wide variety of books Chris had available to him, he chose a book that was very much in his wheel house. He chose to read “Beethoven’s Heroic Symphony” by Anna Harwell Celenza, with illustrations done by JoAnne E. Kitchel.
The book tells the story of Beethoven and his deafness and the story of how the 3rd Symphony received the moniker of the Heroic Symphony. The book is written and presented to children in a way that is easy to understand, and still keeps the children interested and engaged.
This sadly, is the final week February, and therefore the final week of I Love to Read Month. A big thank you to McNally Robinson Booksellers for making this year’s contest such a big success. And a big thanks to all who entered! We here at Classic 107 are looking forward to spreading the gift of reading to students and the community this time next year.
Until then keep supporting your local booksellers!
