It is the time of year when construction projects are in full swing in Weyburn. This year, there is no bigger project than the rebuild of 1st Avenue between Government Road and 9th Street, but there are plenty more which have started or are getting close to completion.

“I just want to thank the residents of Weyburn and all the businesses,” said Director of Engineering Jennifer Wilkinson during Monday night’s meeting of City Council. “We do understand the impact that it has on people’s days, on their planning, as well as the businesses that are on those routes.”

The City of Weyburn has been trying to keep residents abreast of the projects using the Voyent Alert system. The system provides updates on everything from traffic disruptions to city events. The most recent alert was issued Wednesday, advising residents of construction that is happening on Sims Avenue between Walmart and VIP Lube.

“We try our best to minimize the impact and provide as much communication as we possibly can, but we also know that inconveniences come with that, so we just want to thank the residents and businesses of Weyburn for their patience,” Wilkinson added.

In addition to the construction on 1st Avenue and Sims Avenue, crews have begun line painting in the city. This is expected to go on until the end of the weekend. Other projects include some work along Railway Avenue, sidewalk replacements in various locations throughout the city, and scheduled work to get underway at the Albert Douglas Dam.
