After spending a day checking out the sights of downtown Weyburn, a porcupine that captured the city’s attention has now moved on to a new location.

Shortly before 11:00 a.m. Thursday, a porcupine was reported in a tree at the corner of Souris Avenue and 2nd Street. The City of Weyburn sent out an alert letting residents know to avoid the area, and barricades were set up to give the animal some space.

The prickly visitor spent much of the day in the tree, and overnight left the tree. Its exact destination is not known.

The City of Weyburn reminds residents to avoid wild animals such as porcupines when they encroach into urban areas. They recommend getting in touch with the city to report a wild animal or contact a conservation officer from the provincial Ministry of Environment.
