Get ready for a pedal-powered art adventure.

Bike Winnipeg in partnership with the Winnipeg Arts Council’s Public Art Program present ArtRide – a chance to cycle about the city and learn more about various public art installations.

“It’s a great opportunity,” says Bike Winnipeg Executive Director Mark Cohoe. “We’re going to go out and explore some of the public art we have out in the city.”

Focusing on various neighbourhoods in the city, the group has already toured the BLUE rapid transit line in the Fort Garry area with upcoming events in the St. Boniface and Downtown Tuesday evening, before visiting north Main on Monday, August 5.

Riding with a guide from the Winnipeg Arts Council, the groups learn more about the public art installations themselves, as well as the creators and stories behind the pieces.

“Having done this the last 5 or 10 years... I have a deeper appreciation of those art works and I get to see a little more in them when I go past,” reflects Cohoe.

In addition to serving as an educational opportunity, the evenings also inform Winnipeggers on the cycling infrastructure in the city.

“We look at it as a backdoor way to get people acquainted with the bike network and to get them out to parts of the city they might not venture out to,” says Cohoe.

Free to the public and open to all ages and abilities, rides take place rain or shine though severe weather would cause cancellation. Attendees are encouraged to register through the Bike Winnipeg website.
