With the help of local organizations and businesses, the Strathmore Pride Community added a fresh coat of paint to the town's Pride crosswalk next to the Strathmore Municipal Building.
The repainting was a part of the Parade Paint & Party event held by the community on Sunday (Aug. 25), with groups meeting at the Strathmore Skate Park to make flags and posters before parading down to Kinsmen Park, where they began to repaint the crosswalk.
"There's more people this year," said Becca McDonald, one of the members of the Strathmore Pride Community. "It feels good, and I know there are a lot of people supporting it that aren't here, too, and that feels good."
Several supporters drove by to honk their horns and display their pride flags, with the 20 people who made it out to the event helping to paint over the sidewalk throughout the afternoon.
Although this is the only event that the community hosts throughout the year, McDonald also works with Skatemore Girls, a group that promotes accessibility to the Strathmore Skate Park.
"People are sharing it online and spreading it through the community," added McDonald. "We would like to do more things throughout the year."
The event was sponsored by True North, Prospect Now, Lil Hoots, and the Wheatland County Food Bank, with the latter providing thousands of dollars in Pride-branded clothing.
This is the second year that the Pride crosswalk has existed in Strathmore, with it first being painted in September 2023. You can see a gallery of the crosswalk painting below:
